★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wow, historical. This block is lived in, and looks to be in good condition. Probably one of a few remaining curved HDB blocks- I know of two in Toa Payoh that have been torn down (one was opposite lorong 1 market, next to Phillips factory; the other was fronting the Dragon playground slide in lorong 6).

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Except for 10+ years, Queenstown has been and is home for me since 1961. Like most parts of Singapore, Queenstown/Stirling Road has been evolving. It is the first HDB satellite town to be built in Singapore. I ? Queenstown.
Published by My Community @2018:
“Block 168A Queensway is one of the first curved-shape blocks constructed by the Housing and Development Board (HDB). The sale of the 20-storey curved block was inaugurated...on 18 October 1973. Its unique façade earned the block an interesting colloquial name from the residents, “the Butterfly Block”, for its striking resemblance to the winged insect.
Before the Butterfly Block was constructed, early HDB residential blocks were largely designed as simple slab blocks and point blocks as the focus then was to build efficiently. With its unique curves and aesthetic façade, the Butterfly Block is an effort to create more variety and character in public housing estates through innovative designs.”

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It is one of the older HDB blocks around. It is unique because the block is curved in shape. On some floors, there is no common corridor connecting all the flats on the same floor. Walking along the corridors reminds you of what used to be the common style of HDB blocks, where you could walk along corridors, and peer into people's houses through the window. It does have a good view of Queensway Shopping Centre and the adjacent fire station on the higher floors. Definitely worth a visit if you want to see the heritage of Queenstown
