Ivins Peranakan Restaurant @ Kovan - 205 Hougang Street 21

We have been passing this restaurant for many times but finally we decided to dine in. I was surprised that there isn't many people during dinner on Tuesday. We have ordered a set C for 2 pax that consists of Ayam Goreng Rempah, Honey Pork, Nyonya Chap Chye, Fried Ngo Hiang and comes with 2 plates steamed rice and 2 desserts (selection from Pilot Hitam, Buboh Cha Cha, Chendol and Sago). This portion is good for 2! The restaurant is located inside Heartland Mall which is at Level 2 around the Customer Service area. They do accept Credit card payment, PayNow and cash.

My go to for good peranakan food. Today, I ordered snapper with pineapple for first time. It was delicious. It was slightly spicy with red cut chilli n tamarind taste was just right along with pineapple. Honey pork, fishmaw soup n buah kewah my usual favourite. The long bean was a little too coconutty but just my preference. Highly recommend to go before 6 pm to avoid crowd.

Chanced upon this plc for lunch and noticed quick a crowd. The beef rendang, babi pongteh, and sambal kangkong were great. Be sure to ask for their sambal which was so delish and go for their fragrant nasi kuning over regular white rice. Service was quick, dishes were affordable with generous portions. Downside was the chap chye which was lacking in flavor. The Hee peow soup was also just average. Nonetheless it's not easy to find delicious yet affordable paranankan food in Singapore - definite must try!

Family set B for 2 pax $40 came with a good selection of dishes and can feed 3 pax easily. - Ikan Masak Assam Pedas: Fish was fresh. Assam sauce was packed with flavours and went so well with rice. Give me another bowl of rice please? - Beef Rendang: Beef was soft & tender. Thumbs up! - Nyonya Chap Chye: Vegetables was cooked till the level of softness I liked. Loved that this dish was packed with natural sweetness. - Fried Ngoh Hiang: Generous fillings and fried to perfect crisp without too dry. - Steam rice - Buboh Cha Cha: Coconut milk was fresh. Packed generously with sweet potatoes, yam cubes and corn. Love this warm dessert. - Chendol: Gula Melaka was fragrant and chendol jelly was thick and soft. So good ? Amazingly good! Great peranakan food at reasonable prices. You can see the care in the ingredients quality from the bone-in chicken thighs for the ayam buah keluak, pork belly with a balance of fat/lean meat, and the golden egg yolk in the braised egg. Ngo hiang and the desserts we tried - bubor cha cha/ chendol - though are only average. Staff can be a little less patient but willing to overlook that for the good food.

Ordered delivery for an office event. Items were delivered on time and cleanly. Items with soup/gravy had additional cling film to prevent spillage. The price was affordable, and the set for 6 pax was clearly enough for 8 pax, especially with small eaters. Desserts were good but not overly sweet. The food overall was flavourful, not too spicy for tourists to have a bit. Would consider purchasing again.

It was a public holiday weekend. One of our friend came early to ask for a table for 04. One of the very rare occasions that we get to dine-in at a Peranakan’s place. There are plenty to choose from when I set my eyes on the menu. Firstly, I must say none of us are that familiar about the cuisines. But maybe just a few on the menu itself. Secondly, only 04 of us and we tried to order small portion for most of our dishes. You could see a couple of items in claypots which is the way they are being served. However, we still managed to order a whole table of dishes. It was an enjoyable meal and food were being served promptly. Attentive service. Though the place were getting packed. We did not feel they were rushing to get rid of us. Will be back for some of the dishes that we missed out this time. Thank you!
