Great place to jam and amazing sound team! And all for free during these covid times where the economy is poor. Kudos to them.

β€œFree studio and live recording session” is the misleading promise Anaki uses to solicit interest from local bands. I got in touch, and the problems started immediately. After confirming a date, I received an email notifying me, despite the confirmation I had sent, and had an email record of, that there was no confirmation from me, so they had given the spot to someone else. After rescheduling, I emailed some basic questions about what sort of recording would be done, and was told that they would record us and then decide if they wanted to use the video, but that we would not receive any recording of the session, nor were we allowed to make a recording off the mixing board. When I asked if we would be provided any record of the event, and if so, in what format, I got the followed reply: β€œThis is a free session and initiative by the team at anaki and everyone involved is volunteering their time to help bands get to jam and enjoy the use of the studio for free. Should you prefer a professional mixed audio and video recording, receive recording formats of choice or have professional demands, there are many outfits currently available for audio and video recording specifically for such purpose.” This seems like an unnecessarily rude and condescending reply, when what I asked was reasonable based on the promise of a recording session. I was not demanding such professional treatment, just trying to get clarification, as the people in my band had lots of questions and suspected we were being caught up in a marketing ploy. I did not realize that the session was for anaki, not for the artists. When I asked what gear they had, I was condescendingly told that that information was on their website. It is not. When we showed up, the mixing was improperly done, leading to hearing damage for two members of my band. When I complained about the deafening level of noise, the owner threatened to end the session early. My ears have been ringing for days. I have permanent hearing damage from this session at Anaki. EDIT: Hours after posting my initial review, a reply was posted in the middle of the night by the owner who accuses me of libel. However, nothing that I reported in the initial report is libelous or untrue, unlike her reply. The reply distorts the events of the recording session, for instance claiming that upon arrival I confronted the person who was mixing the sound, asking β€œAre you the sound guy? Do you have a degree in sound?” These questions were asked after the performance, in a relaxed, inquisitive way, without intended or perceived malice. I asked them because I am interested in audio technology and sound design, and was trying to get a sense of how one gets a job in the industry. The claim that I have blocked or been blocked by band members since the event is untrue. The truth is that I have decided to take a break from the band in light of the hearing damage suffering because of the high amplitude of the guitar sound during the Anaki session. Claims of a volume war with the guitarist are similarly ungrounded. None of us could hear each other onstage because the sound was not sufficiently monitored for the performers, leaving us to guess what notes we were playing or whether they were being heard. As previously stated, this mistake in the sound mix -- not providing adequate onstage monitoring, thus compelling the guitarist to constantly turn up and drown out other players even during what was supposed to be their solos -- was the source of the hearing damage. The owner claims to be in conversation with the other members of the band, hoping to sow division and make it seem like my version of the event is subjective, but none of the claims I make is contradicted by the ad hominem accusations, complaining about my use of profanity, for instance. Regarding this, I would suggest that if you suddenly experienced a sensation similar to a needle stabbing into the jaw nerve connected to your inner ear, and a subsequent high pitched screaming whine that has not gone away for three days now, you might also use profanity.
