Ebenezer Church - Ebenezer Church

Biblical church that holds to the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith. Good preaching and the fellowship is warm. Worship service is reverencial. There are Children's Bible School and Adult's Bible Classes after the worship service.

A small congregation in the west, this church currently has a few faithful members who love the Lord, coupled with some visitors. It had gone through a painful church split some years ago which might have contributed to a certain sensitivity and allergy to anything that suggests of differences or disunity. Their website says that the church "holds to" the Second London Baptist Confession of Faith, but this is very misleading. Upon clarification with their ex-pastor and chief/arch-deacon, "holds to" does not mean "subscribes to the doctrines contained in the confession" - which is the historical understanding of being Confessional. Their church constitution contains a general Statement of Faith, and further states that they use the confession only as a guide. Apparently they repudiate full subscription to the Confession, at least at the moment of writing of this review. Overall, the fellowship is warm and irenic, and their Bible study allows everyone to voice their views winsomely. Following a typically postmodern approach in their Bible study discussion, there is very little doctrinal leadership, direction and guidance as the congregation is currently led by the diaconate yielding full ecclesiastical powers, and one without firm doctrinal convictions. From another perspective, this allows everyone with differing convictions to have a say, which is popular these days and might be ideal for those looking for a latitudinarian, inclusive doctrinal environment. In my opinion, the church urgently needs a Reformed, Confessional elder/s who can put things in order, especially the teaching culture and the doctrinal direction of the church. Such a man must not be fearful of the diaconate's resistance to a fully confessional stance, and must be willing to please God rather than men or his own pockets. May the Lord bring such a needful gift into this little flock of Christ!
