EduGrove Mandarin Enrichment Centre - 135 E Coast Rd

EduGrove has been a treasure for our two year old!  My daughter and I couldn’t be happier with the teachers and staff! Liu Laoshi and the other teachers make learning Chinese fun and natural. My daughter is always excited to go to class, and her progress and Chinese retention have been far beyond my expectations!  She is really thinking in and absorbing Chinese, and her tones and pronunciation are very good, through caring individual support and positive reinforcement from the teachers.  Not only are the teachers patient and kind, but they cater to the kids’ individual likes in ways that excite and are imaginative.  The interactive nature of everything they do, such as helping the kids learn to count and to recognize simple characters, is seamless. Their style is not just about learning Chinese, per se, although every word is in beautiful Mandarin by teachers from China who teach Chinese very well.  The curriculum helps build skills appropriate to their age - sensory skills, puzzles, arts and crafts, working with foods, saying please and thank you, cleaning up toys by yourself  - and all this just happens to be conducted in Chinese and support learning Mandarin.  The classes are small, much smaller than other classes we have attended for kids her age, and that makes a real difference.  As prep for preschool, either in English or Chinese, this is first rate. Staff are extremely flexible and accommodating, extraordinarily responsive, friendly, and helpful, as well.  This so important, too! Recently, due to COVID-19, they’ve moved classes to short online “story time” sessions.  I’m so grateful for this continued exposure.  We are not native speakers of Chinese, so having continued access to my daughter’s beloved Liu Laoshi and an opportunity to interact in Chinese while at home, even briefly, is golden. I am so grateful to have EduGrove in our neighborhood!

This is our second year attending the playgroup class and I can’t recommend it enough. The teachers are really, really committed and enthusiastic! It is a truly immersion environment that is also fun and nurturing. We don’t speak any Mandarin as a family but I wanted my daughter to have the opportunity to learn and I am so happy I found this class!
