Fragrant Wok - 681 Hougang Ave 8

Very rude counter service by a guys in grey shirt @ Tanglin Halt branch. Not only did he got the ingredients wrong for my order, he refused to change it after I complained. The tall skinny guy at Fragrant Wok inside Koufu, Tanglin Halt, has serious attitude and mental problem. I don’t understand how someone like that can even work. There were many times I saw he never wear mask, sitting at the counter playing with his handphone. I tried to take a pic of him but he stared very fiercely and at one time, give me the middle finger, preventing me from doing so. I could very easily go on and take the photo and things would get very violent. But I’m a gentleman. I think he’s not smart enough to realise there’s a cctv above him. Not only is he very rude and uncivilised (he bark like a dog and make funny noise whenever I walk past the stall). There’s another short worker with specs who never mask and tend to join him. The rest of the staff are okay. The tall worked and his short colleague play hide and seek with NEA. Cos someone complained and NEA went down, they quickly wear mask, but when NEA is gone, they slack and never wear mask. There was another time when the owner of the noodle stall next to Fragrant Wok, forgot to key in the payment for a dumpling noodle dish I ordered. To verify if she was telling the truth, I had to check the cashier statement to make sure the payment didn’t go through before I pay again, without any rhymn or reason, the tall guy called Ah Sheng from Fragant Wok shouted and spewed vulgarities at me like a raving lunatic! His deplorable acrions were captured on CCTV. What has this got to do with him!? I ignored his “dog barkings” and verified the noodle stall owner’s statement and duly paid off the dish with my credit card. I did not see the need to confront a mentally ill person. I’m appalled that such a pathetic staff in Ah Sheng can be fit for work. What is Fragrant Wok doing! If I was the boss, he would be scaked by now,

It's difficult to come up with a conclusive rating as the quality of the dishes vary from dishes to dishes and time to time. My usual go-to's are the Herbal Prawns, Homemade Tofu, Ginger Scallion Fish Fillet, Four Heavenly Kings, and Kangkung (Water Convolvulus) Belacan. The Herbal Prawn with the broth is very appetizing. The Herbal and spices taking the limelight. Both the spices within the Four Heavenly Kings and Kangkung Belacan are well done. Other than that, I am very amaze with the 卤猪蹄Braised Pork Leg. In general, the pricing is very reasonable, overall cleanliness good .

Compared to last time standard of food is very good now, ordered salted egg sotong - too addictive had to order 2nd plate. Their mee goreng and hor fun got strong wok hey taste, the chef definitely knows how to cook!!! highly recommended to try. At the time of this review I find this zi char the best in this neighbourhood area. Price is the standard zi char price, nothing overly priced.
