★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Gao Lin Gong Temple was founded in 1888 as an attap-thatched house, and later replaced by a wooden hut, before being reconstructed into a concrete structure in 1962. The temple has its origins in China: it derives its name from the Hao Lin Gong Temple in Yu Hu Village, in Nan An County, in the Fujian Province. In the late 19th century, immigrants formed the Kow Tiow Kio (translates to “Nine Bridges” in Hokkien) settlement where Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 is today. These immigrants were mostly Hokkiens, though a minority comprised Hainanese and Teochews.
