Curious spot for tourist, though not so much for locals. A little creepy tbh. They added Christmas deco to a taoist shrine so that's quite interesting.

Very interesting stop on Pulau Ubin with a fascinating history. Slightly off the beaten track, and rather small, but well worth a visit if you are interested in the background and lore of Pulau Ubin (full story is available online, simply search "German Girl Shrine, Pulau Ubin"). Do take note that at the time that I visited (April, 2018) the famed Barbie doll was no where to be seen, and the shrine itself had undergone a major renovation.

Pulau Ubin is not really a lost place. People from Singapore love this island, which still retains its natural character right next to the metropolis. But in the middle of the jungle, about 5 km away from the pier you will find the very unknown "Berlin Heiligtum", the German Girl Shrine. The interesting and amazing story can easily be found on the internet. The small old temple has been completely rebuilt. The construction of wood, as well as the decoration are reminiscent of German culture. It is a place of enchanting peace and seclusion. Even those who are not attracted to Taoism find there a magical place of remembrance and prayer. How to go? - Comfortable by taxi in the morning from 7.00 AM to the Changi Village Ferry Terminal (City to Ferry Terminal approx. 24 SG $) - Transport by Ferry (7.00 AM - 7.00 PM) to Pulau Ubin (pay 3 SG $ on the boat) - small minibus taxis (about SG $ 24) or bikes to borrow (SG $ 6), available close to the island pier. - Plans of the island are available as well. On the way also many large signs with indication of location - small, but good road leads to the vicinity of the temple, then a short rocky path, but good to ride on mountain bike. Only very small gradients to overcome. Really: very easy to take this way by bicycle - just fellow the street to the left - less people on weekdays, more visitors during the weekend Return journey: - Back to Changi VIllage Ferry Terminal by boat. - Bus station to the left of the Changi Village Ferry Terminal, Bus No. 2 to the MRT Station "Upper Changi" - take the Blue Line (Downtown Line) to the City

Interesting small shrine in honour to a 18 year old German Girl died there in 1914. Should find out the history. Many Chinese Gods and Dieties placed beside the Urn (remains of the girl). Small but interesting.

Bit far from the start and the place feels bit lonely since no one is around most of the time. There's some history to this place, it's better to google it if you looking for more about it.

It is a absolutely must visit shrine for locals and tourist that is located in pulau ubin if you're visiting the island. This particular shrine is said to be on this island ever since 1914 when a German girl died while escaping capture from the British army. However, one thing to note is that the real origin of the German Girl shrine has different versions and research work done by certain people seems to suggest otherwise. I encourage you to read up on the resources that are avaliable online and judge for yourself. I also noticed people who mentioned that there is a film with regards to the German Girl shrine called 'moving gods' which was released back in 2003. I'm not sure where you can find this film though.
