Hippo Family Restaurant - 72 Circuit Rd

Tried this zhichar stall that is under blk 72 circuit road. I would describe this place as very cosy eatery with limited tables. First glance on the menu, the food here is definitely wallet friendly. Most dishes are ranged between to SGD$6-10. Seems to be a popular takeaway as i noticed many people does that. Ordered a total of 4 dishes, half spring chicken, beancurd skin with golden needle mushroom, stir fry sweet potato leave with garlic and sambal kangkong. Total bill came up to less than SGD$30 if i didnt remeber wrongly. Food was pretty good except for the fried chicken. The variety on the menu is pretty huge as well. Would definitely come back again!

Homely cafe in the neighborhood. Most dishes are good except the steamed soups are bland, need more 火候。Picky son loves the XBC, adults like the SPL. Cereal fish is good. Suzhou trotter not to our liking as it's a bit sweet, would prefer the local salty ones.

The family loves small and unpretentious places, and even more if they serve great food without the unnecessary monetary damage. Our frequent haunt is the Food Centre at Circuit Road. It’s got an old-world charm and was also a favourite supper hangout for my mum and Dad many years ago. Recently while I was driving about the area, I drove into a HDB carpark nearby and realised there is a small family-run cafe selling Cze Char, with a rather whimsical name to boot; Hippo Family Restaurant. The place is small and houses some 7-8 wooden tables, with metal stools. Next to it, is a very old confectionary making tarts, and traditional Chinese snacks. The Chinese lady boss also doubles as a cashier and the one taking the orders. The dishes? Nothing fancy. Lookup the menu, write down the numbers on a post-it sized piece of paper, hand it to the lady boss, and wait to eat. Again, simple Cze Char food, but very well-cooked and plenty of Wok Hei! The people here are friendly, and it’s obvious form payments made at the cashier that many patrons here have become her friends. The best part of any meal here? The reasonable prices. You don’t break the bank, you don’t break a sweat, and at the end of the meal, your wallets stays intact and you walk away with a full and satisfied tummy. Need I say more?

The lady boss have a very good service. The food is pretty acceptable in terms of price and taste. Perfect restaurant in a hidden place.

I order Spring Onion ginger fish rice end up this is wat I get. Whatever u order here also fried. the way they prepare food just fried and put the sauce. Really bad, even the simple food also cant make it right! TERRIBLE!!!

Good prices, but serving is also small (3/4 of small portion at typical coffeeshop zhichar). Taste is pretty homely and well balanced. Would recommend the pig trotter and sweet potato leaves. Prawn paste chicken was not well marinated enough but perhaps because we went during lunchtime when they just opened.

Nice quiet estate to have zichar. Dishes a lot of variety from single dish to sharing food. Nice for 2 to 4pax due to current covid. Can use PayNow. Lots of order through phone from old customer. Lady boss pleasant. Order come out fast
