One of the WW2 marker location. This one details an early battle and one of the first attempted landing by the Japanese which the Allied Forces scored a victory over.

The Battle of Kranji was the second stage of the Empire of Japan's plan for the invasion of Singapore during the Second World War. Kranji Beach was where the British troops released thousands of gallons of oil and set fire to the Japanese troops who were making a landing. The Japanese soldiers fled for the beach, human torches burnt alive at sea. On 9 February 1942 the Imperial Japanese Army assaulted the north-western front of the British colony of Singapore, their primary objective was to secure a second beachhead after their successful assault at Sarimbun Beach on 8 February, in order to breach the Jurong-Kranji defence line as part of their southward thrust towards the heart of Singapore City. There were two reasons for this. First, the Japanese needed a crack force to take over Kranji so as to be able to safely build the causeway that was blown up by the British after their final retreat from Malaya. Second, they needed a beachhead to land more forces on the island to breach the Jurong Kranji defence line that was standing between them and the city in the south. Defending the shoreline between the Kranji River and the Johor–Singapore Causeway was the Australian 27th Brigade, led by Brigadier Duncan Maxwell, and a group of locals put togethere by the British Lt General John Dalley to assist the British in the defence of the island. On 10 February the Japanese forces suffered their heaviest losses while moving up the Kranji River, which caused them to panic and nearly aborted the operation. However, a series of miscommunications and withdrawals by Allied forces in the ensuing battles allowed the Japanese to swiftly gain strategic footholds, which eventually led to the fall of Singapore on 15 February 1942.
