Stepping into Kreta Ayer Square brings about several things. First, it is the most obvious meeting spot before heading out to other places. Its wide open space is functional as a rendezvous point. Also, there are community functions held here on occasion. Second, it has a great sense of history all about the place. Smith Street is quite literally a stone's throw away. The colonial styled buildings bring about an old world charm amid the thronging tourists looking for suitable memorabilia. Chinatown Complex, too, is a straight-up 80's relic. (Don't forget to try their awesome food on the second floor too!) All in all, it does not take long for the casual observer to realise how special Kreta Ayer Square is in the sense people defined its use and its very apparent historicity.

Fun place to mixed with the old senior playing Chinese Chess or International Chess. A scene in 2005.

At the heart of Chinatown, this is one of the oldest estate in Singapore that had gone through decades of modernisation, unlicensed street vendors and dirty streets had since gone but one still can find the essence of the earliest immigrants that set foot here. The complex is a good place to taste some delicious local food to start the day of.

Very beautiful decoration for CNY 2022. However, quite crowded everywhere regardless of the Covid situation.

12 life-sized tiger displays currently at Kreta Ayer Square (Open space between Buddha Relic Temple and Chinatown Complex) - Exhibition is ongoing from now till 15 February 2022. This is an initative to raise the awareness of tiger conservation as we welcome the Year of Tiger. Painted by local artists, injecting different personalities to these tigers. Can be crowded as many were taking photos. Nice place to go after dining at Chinatown Complex
