Have been patronizing 老火汤 at Toa Payoh central basement food court fir a while already. They are getting from bad to worse. Soup have absolutely no taste. It’s especially frustrating paying $8 for 佛跳墙 when the ingredient is reduced so much and totally tasteless like water. Boycotting them with immediate effect.

This is my new found place for really solid Cantonese style soups. I’ve tried the other branches before, but the taste isn’t as good as this. Located at the Gourmet Paradise Koufu Foodcourt at the Toa Payoh Bus Interchange basement. This is my second time eating here, ordered the lotus pork rib $4.50, add brown rice $0.80. The soup was packed with “liao”, have peanuts, dried cuttlefish, and chunks of the biggest pork ribs I’ve eaten from any soup place so far. The pork has been marinated with some peppery seasoning, tasted almost like eating bak kut teh. My rice was filled to the brim on a smal bowl. The broth was super thick and flavorful, perfect for the rainy weather yesterday. The highlight was, I noticed a few people were getting refills for their soups after they finished their bowl. I was surprised, because how would the staff remember what soups were given to who. So I gave it a try and brought my empty bowl to them. omg! The staff refilled my bowl without questions asked. I told the staff half the bowl is enough, it’s more than generous, and it’s super filling and incredible value for just $5.30 with such quality ingredients, great food and sitting inside an air con food court environment. My last time here, I tried the Buddha jump over the wall for $8. Very solid also and worth every penny, plenty of fish maw inside the soup, and bits of dried scallops with a slice of abalone. The pumpkin rice is also a must try, only $0.80! Overall, this place is worth checking out. And definitely can eat!

This is the pork rib soup under the HDB building in Toa Payoh Gourmet Paradise food court. Their soup is amazing and piping hot. Tried #9 ABC Pork Rib and it's awesome, and have to come back try the other variety. Portion is generous and the price is reasonable.

The 佛跳墙 soup was flavourful, taste great and the bowl had quite a lot of ingredients included. Well worth the price with the free on request soup refills. The addon pumpkin rice and addon vegetables went well with the soup. Recommended.
