★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice place for dinner and drinks. Good craft beer selection. They have mead as well. Food is good. Tried the mono experience. It will be better balance with one meat (non fish) dish. Friend tried the unagi don but was surprise that it is serve with normal rice. However I think this is still a good place to go to and can see the food evolving and improving

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ All style no substance sums up our meal at mono izakaya. First impressions, offer the hope of a nice night, the venue is a cafe by day, so it’s quite stylish, open and well spaced out. The menu of fusion Japanese izakaya promises a lot and the prices suggest the food should be verging on the higher end of dining experiences. The ‘caviar’ tacos and Japanese oysters caught our eye. What arrived was a lesson in over-promising and under-delivering. For $10 the caviar tacos were a 1$ bag of chips in a bowl with a side dip of Mayo, a little caviar and some fish roe. What the thinking behind the presentation of the Japanese oysters (at $20, no less) was, I will never know. After shucking the oysters and throwing away the beautiful natural shells, six oysters were dumped in a glass with some ponzu sauce to resemble a lumpy liquid concoction you’d normally expect to regurgitate at the end of a night of heavy drinking.
After this the food we’d ordered became a bit of joke. We soon realised there was not really a ‘kitchen’ but a space behind the counter to prepare, ready-made food. So our crispy fried chicken, felt like microwaved chicken covered in a variety of sauces to kill anything you might have tasted underneath. While our duck rice bowl felt like preheated duck breast stuck on pretty bland rice, with some pre-heated veg stuck on the side. The ‘craft beer’ was basically the same craft beer you can get at most supermarkets with over a 100% mark up, and the small glass of sake was also marked up and really not worth the cost. On a positive note, the service was polite, if not always attentive (mobile phones can distract from customers these days) but to be honest, what’s promised and what’s delivered is soooo far apart, you come away thinking you just paid for a high-end Japanese meal but actually got a Seven Eleven economy meal instead.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Mono is the type of place where you come and mingle with the people who make the place as homey as it is.
Great food & drinks are to be expected. But you’ll come back for the warm hospitality :)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Disappointing experience esp with the raving reviews we’ve read. The items in each bowl were nice but just didn’t go well together eg the ikan bilis crackers in the unagi bowl, and kimchi in the smoked duck bowl. Sashimi was overpriced for the quality, and there was no izakaya vibes at all and more cafe vibes. Service was friendly and good but does not make up for the overall experience.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The vibe of the restaurant is lovely and so was the service. However, the food not so much. The bossam was not bad. Dissapointed with the duck donburi, it was not served with japanese rice but jasmine rice. Rice was also undercooked and a tad crunchy at times. Don't bother ordering the aged sashimi don, its fishy and the jasmine rice and fish does not compliment each other.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Visited this a while back when they just opened, the decor was minimal and spacious but lacked the warmth and cosiness of an izakaya. I wouldn't call this place an izakaya per se. Food was interesting, server kindly explained to us the selection of pickled fruit (I liked the starfruit the most) and cured fish. Recommend to come here to try their unique dishes

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ New year eve dinner at @mono.singapore
Firstly, would like to compliment their service. The person taking the order was very patient when he explained the dishes that we enquired.
At first we really couldn’t make up our mind because everything on the menu sounds so good.
Among everything that we ordered, Unagi Truffle Risott, Seasonal Aged Sashimi (3 types) and Aburi bossam were the top 3 dishes for us.
Unfortunately, the 5 types sashimi and duck dishes were unavailable when we were there. Been wanting to try their duck, so might go back for that and the unagi truffle risotto!!
What’s on the table:
Mains:
•Mono Chirashi ($35)
•Ssamjang sashimi poke bowl ($35)
•Half unagi meshi don ($25)
•Unagi Truffle Risotto ($35)
Sides:
•Kong wings ($12)
•Aburi Bossam ($20)
•Fuwa scallop ($22)
•Seasonal Aged Sashimi - 3 types ($46)
Drinks:
•Umeshu orange sour - alcoholic ($12)
•sparkling yuzu ($8)
Overall experience was great. But would love the ambience to be at the original place instead ): I didn’t realised they had moved to another location, so ambience wise, was expecting more!!
