Muslim Converts' Association of Singapore (Darul Arqam Singapore) - 32 Onan Rd

I used to love coming here to buy books for my kids and myself. But I have to share a sad experience I had when I visited there last week during the March School holidays. We had gone to look at some books as usual. When we arrived, we were met by 2 ladies at the entrance. All 4 of us checked-in as required. However, the 2 ladies were very cold and curt in asking us what we were doing there. My husband wanted to do his afternoon prayers and one kept reiterating this caveat that they they only have prayer mats and do not provide telekungs. She repeated it 4 or 5 times in a harsh manner, all while giving me a side glance. When we told them that we wanted to visit the bookstore, they told us very curtly that the bookstore was closed. Since my husband had wanted to do his prayers there, my kids and I needed to wait for him at the lobby, but were told, "you cannot sit down". While I understand the need for social distancing and the restrictions imposed during this pandemic period, they came across as trying to chase us away. I had also specifically gone there to take a picture of a poster that they have under the main staircase of the names of our Prophets. When I approached the poster, one of the ladies told me outright, "please don't go there". My question is, is there a need to be this brusque? We were not there to make trouble, we just wanted to do our solat, get a picture of the poster and buy some books. To make a long story short, Darul Arqam was a place where converts like us could go to get Islamic educational material in English and do our prayers if we were in the area. I think it is safe to say that I will not be returning there anymore and will opt to get my books online instead. We are all Muslims, there is no need to make us feel so unwelcome. Our family ended up leaving the establishment and my husband did not do his prayers there. Some of us converts are already going through a difficult time and are already distanced from family and friends who cannot accept our choices. Please be kinder.

Spacious it's has front lawn which is massive. Can be used as parking as its very costly to park out and always full.

Friendly n helpful volunteers managing the place... Its my annual place to pay for my zakat fitrah.

It's air-conditioned, the book shop customer svc is well mannered but haven't visited the toilet. Sis Nur Syafiqah is not in unfortunately. Patiently waiting for my membership card which will be ready in 3 mths time.

Received No Answer When Seeking Help with Personal Matters Pertaining to Islamic Requirements. I Had Send Email, via Chat and Had Personally Walk In to Meet Up with a Staff to Address My Issues But to No Vail. As a Convert who Embraced Islam at Darul Arqam a Couple of Years Back, I’m Disappointed with the Silent Treatment

It was nice to offer Eid ul Adha prayer there again after a gap of more than 2 years. Exchanged Eid Greetings with the the participants, some known and mostly unknown faces. The arrangements were excellent. The management deserves appreciation.

Just have my iftar there. Today is nasi brani with chicken curry. Very delicious ??
