★ ★ ★ ★ ★ From NAS website... "Kheng Chiu Building at 47 Beach Road where Tin Hou Kong temple and Kheng Chiu Hui Kuan (now known as Singapore Hainan Hwee Kuan, a clan for the Hainanese community) are located. The temple and clan association building was first built in 1857 in three adjoining shophouses at 6 Malabar Street. It moved to Beach Road in 1878 and the original building underwent renovations in 1963."
"The area comprised many dilapidated two story shop houses, and much it was part of the Japanese red light district before the war, which were demolished in the early 1980s...." - Source blog - the longnwinding road
"The Hainanese in Singapore originated from Hainan province in China.1 According to the 2010 population census, the Hainanese community is the fifth-largest Chinese dialect group, and constitutes less than 7 percent of the Chinese population in Singapore."
