★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Heritage still breathes within Little India. At the corner of Upper Dickson Road and Serangoon Road is Singapore’s longest-running Tamil bookstore. For 30 years, this humble bookstore imports publications directly from India and has become a bedrock of heritage in the neighbourhood.
This mural draws inspiration from its neighbour, the Siyamala Bookstore. The mural, 7 Book-a-Meeting created by Eunice Lim, takes a look into how heritage, histories, traditions and stories are discovered. I took that description of the Art Walk Little India booklet, which organises a yearly heritage celebration of this vibrant neighbourhood with the aim to resurrect the long-lost tales of Little India. In fact, this mural was created as part of the festival and completed early in 2018.
