Soul Food - 20 Lengkok Bahru

Good food is easy to find in Singapore. And when a restaurant takes pride in delivering quality while driven by a deeper passion to give back to the community, it takes the culinary experience to a different level. I found Soul Food during a tour of SG Enable Village to learn about the initiatives supporting the special needs community in Singapore. Social entrepreneurs like Gerald and Anne are driven individuals who believe in empowering a segment of the population most people would gladly observe on the sideline. Interacting with, not to mention training and employing individuals with special needs can be challenging because most of us just don't know how to. Gerald and Anne has, since the establishment of their company in 2008, been able to develop a system of training individuals of varying abilities to support a for-profit F&B business. While it may take longer than usual to enjoy the fruits of the labor, the satisfaction of seeing an empowered person performing a task that most of us take for granted far outweighs monetary rewards. Soul Food is not in your typical retail space but it is only a 5-min walk from RedHill MRT station. They may not have the fanciest of curb appeal, but their ever changing offering of European-style cuisine (check their FB page for updates) will appeal to the most discerning of palette. And while you enjoy a 3-course lunch "made by many hands", take the opportunity to interact with the staff and of course, Anne who is usually at the front of house. You may learn alot more about inclusiveness and life, which is more than most $30 meal can deliver.

Food is really gd. I had the salmon. Skin is crispy, meat is just nice, not hard not dry. My colleagues ahs the pork. They said is Good too

The place feels exclusive with only a few tables open for lunch. Had potato & leek soup, roast chicken leg with pesto and salted walnut choc brownie plus coffee. The quality of food far exceeded my expectations. They are simply delicious! Service is a little slow so be patient and ensure you set aside sufficient time to enjoy the quiet ambience and great food :-)

One of my favourite places to go to. The minute you enter, you get the warm fuzzy feels... Cheryl, Anne, Gerald, and their team serve food that calms the soul, makes the tummy happy, and you leave with a sense of being welcomed by friends into their home. ♡ We have another pal there too, Max, he is so cute and now that he uses a facemask with a smile on it. I bet that his real smile is as huge as the one on his mask:) Timothy is fantastic too :) so on the ball!

A social enterprise that serves restaurant-standard set lunch which comes with a soup, main course, dessert and coffee/tea. Roast Cauliflower soup was delicious,with very nicely warmed french Bread. Barramundi Fillet with Lemon Tarragone Sauce was excellent. Chicken Cacciatore very good. Great flavour Dessert was Maple Panna Cotta, which was superb, sweetened with Maple syrup. Overall very good quality meal ! Thanks to Gerald/Anne and the team for a wonderful experience!

Really awesome place w great food and ambience. My hubs and I were very impressed w the oxtail goulash - so much that we even asked to takeaway 2 more sets home! The people there were very lovely and friendly too. Highly recommended!

Pleasant ambience with delightful food cooked with much thought! Fresh ingredients with nice garnishing! The lunch set comes with tea and a delicious walnut brownie !
