Popular amongst the stalls at the food centre. Go early or you'll have to wait for a long while. Stall owner uses a big wok to cook batches of hokkien noodles or kway teow. The flavourful noodle dish is cooked in rich broth with prawns, squid and fatty meat. Best taken with their sambal chilli paste and complemented with citrus lime.

This is a local shop right in the midst of the Stirling Road heartlands. It’s a row of local eateries above a semi-wet market. Expect all the local ins and outs that happens onsite. The Fries Hokkien Mee is delicious and worth making a trip to this site.

Edited 05 Jun 2022: Do note that they are also closed on every 1st and 15th day of the lunar calendar. Edited on 27 Dec 2020: This is still the best hokkien mee I have tasted, after trying several others so called famous hokkien mee stalls. Best Hokkian noodles I have ever tasted! Fresh seafood are used to fry the dish. I am super sensitive to the freshness of seafood for your info (I will sense it even if the seafood is just so slightly unfresh). A definite Must try!

A very decent flavourful plate of fried Hokkien mee. Ordered the $6 portion and the ingredients were generous. Chilli was good. I was the last customer at 1pm. Will come back again and try the char kway teow!

The fried kway teow was surprisingly good - tasted just right, not too salty nor sweet. Ingredients, such as lup cheong, fish cakes and greens, were quite generous for $4. Blood cockles were plump and not overcooked. The hokkien mee ($4.50) tasted OK and also contained a generous amount of ingredients. However, there was no sotong but a whole lot of fish cakes. ? Cash only.

We ordered the char kway teow and it was really good, with fresh ingredients and the pork lard was tasty. In fact, we liked the dish so much that we also ordered a plate of hokkien mee. This seemed popular as customers were ordering takeaway portions by 4s and 5s. The noodles were okay, but the chilli added smokiness and enhanced the dish considerably. Prices start from $4.

#02-40 Tan Song Heng 陳松興 Tan Song Heng was formerly located at Newton but had relocated to Mei Ling Hawker Centre for many years. A popular stall, there are always many customers waiting for their orders in front of the stall. Seeing the crowd, a serving each of the Fried Hokkien Mee and Fried Kway Teow were ordered for sampling. Alas, the Fried Hokkien Mee was found to be really salty while the Fried Kway Teow was lacking any Wok Hei and was a soggy mess. After the experience, it makes one wonder how is it that this stall still has so many customers. General Verdict: The dishes here are a tad salty and had no wok hei resulting in lacklusture servings Opening Hours: Daily 8am-12:30pm (Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays) Queue Situation: About 10 mins to 20 mins Price: SG$4 onwards Payment Mode: Cash only Items Ordered: 1) Item: Fried Hokkien Mee - Regular Serving Description: The dish was visually appealing but was found to be a tad salty Verdict: Fail, Don't Waste Time Price: SG$4 2) Item: Fried Kway Teow - Regular Serving Description: The dish was bland, had no wok hei and was one soggy mess. Ingredient wise, the Lap Cheong tasted old as if they have been kept around for a little too long Verdict: Fail, Don't Waste Time Price: SG$4
