β β β β β Had to think a little before I write, as I'm still quite blown away from my experience at the Gem Museum. I originally intended to spend just an hour here, but ended up staying for 2 hours!
The Gem Museum spans across 3 floors. The first floor introduces characteristics, history and geographical origins of different gemstone. They have a MASSIVE collection of both roughs and polished stones on display here. I love it that they have tags and write cards on most of the displays, and go into enough detail about the different stones, both natural and lab-grown.
The second floor is where they house most of their equipment and a classroom where students get to experiment with the equipment and specimen. The third floor has beautiful display of their collection of polished stones for custom creations.
Upon entry, I was warmly greeted by a bubbly lady who was obviously very interested in gemology (Did I spell that right? Haha) and sharing about the museum. Made me feel very welcomed. :)
While she did say that she did not gemology, she knew enough about the place and stones to highlight nuggets of information about different gemstones to make my jaw drop.
In my two hours there, I got to meet the gentlemen doing the guided tour around the museum and also met the founders. Conversation with both the Sr Mr Tay and Jr Mr Tay was inspiring and educational.
They were very candid why they were doing with the Gem Museum and what their ambitions are. For a family who have done so much in the gemology space in both research, education and public service, I think they weren't giving themselves enough credit!!
Everyone there made the visit a memorable experience. I'll definitely make another trip back because I haven't finished touring the entire place.
It is but a small museum, but packed full of information and people who obviously love what they do.
It is a fascinating place to visit for both tourists and locals. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend it.

β β β β β Wonderful Saturday spent in this hidden gem museum which is filled with positive vibes. Came with great interest in collecting raw crystals. But we left with gaining an insight into various aspects of the gem and diamond industry, including how they are graded and traded. A fascinating journey a stone takes from the time it is extracted from the ground to how it is shaped and polished. Grateful to have Kunming (the knowledgeable humble boss) and his friendly staff with us. His family is in the trade for an amazing 45 years and his sharing of "rose gold" precious advice is greatly appreciated.? Will be back again for another wholesome experience for my jewelry. ??

β β β β β Loved that curators are people who are passionate in sharing their knowledge and being on the ground with visitors. Will visit again. I hope there will be a section dedicated local gem/rocks (if there is actually any?). They also have a section where visitors can purchase gem stones. I would love to purchase a stone from someone who shares the knowledge with me rather than from a jewellery shop who is only driven by profit.

β β β β β Staffs are friendly. Kids had fun touching some of the stones (those that they are allowed to touch), and they even bought a small quartz each. It is 3 stories, place is bigger than I thought. Quite a cool place with a gemologist who is also a geologist. He holds classes for adults and even children (high school). Nearest MRT : Rochor.

β β β β β Had an amazing night at the Gem Museum with their June holiday event. The exhibition was very informative, and the staff made the experience very interactive. I really enjoyed the sessions as part of the Night tour. It is definitely an experience suitable for adults and children alike. Will visit again!
