These people are serious about making the most amazing sambals and rempah. I brought back to SF an array of rempahs: lemak chili padi, ayam masak merah, rendang and they were all spectacular! The rendang perhaps was ground too finely for my expectation but taste wise it was on point. Imagine being able to cook up these traditional Malay dishes in just 20-30 mins. I honestly am so grateful!! I love their sambal belacan too. Super recommended!

So ... I was gifted this ready made Asam Pedas pack. Super excited as this would be my 2nd time trying their product. The first one was Sambal Ayam Penyet and Sambal Chencalok, they were delish! I was waiting for for a day to cook up a storm and that day came on Xmas eve. Weirdly enough, my gut feeling told me to prep other ingredients " for "emergency" or add ons. After reading the ingredients and instructions, I knew I was right to prep other ingredients. The moment, I cut opened the pack, the first thing I could smell was, preservertives. Duh, of course it should contain preservatives lah, it's prepacked remember? However the scent was kinda lingering a lot more then I am comfortable with. The recipe called for 2 litres of water and so I did. Oh boy, now my Asam Pedas seemed more soupy then what I am accustomed to. Cut to the chase, the end results were disappointing. After following the instructions and guide, what I got was Asam soup. Pedas by definition means "hot" or "Spicy" and this definately is not. As my sis in law aptly describes it as "light". It lacks the punch so to speak. As previously mentioned, I had high hopes since the sambal penyet and chencalok was the bomb but this one just didn't make the cut. Maybe it was a mistake that I made qnd didn't realise while in the process of cooking but for now, would I get this? Nah, I will pass but will surely try their other products.
