★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the oldest dragon in Singapore..coming to 50 anniversary next yr... Hopefully the dragon will take away the covid next yr!!? Since young in primary school, we been playing hide n seek here. The May south school is no longer here but the dragon still survived the upgrading. Hopefully it will be here for long for good fengfshui to keep for all !.. with this dragon facing the sky. Used to be a water fountain but maintance cost may be higher due to water/algae etc. Nice iconics of old Singapore where there is island treasure hunt game, this is one of the stop zone for the contestants to know old Singapore ?? ! Coming to 50 anniversary!! Keep up the good work town council members! for maintaining it history n this dragon icon in spore.. We got merlion in bishan, Marina, sentose etc.. But for a dragon..only whampoa have it all!!
❤️???

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Whampoa Dragon Fountain Statue - This is a three-story high sculpture (the dragon is 4 meters tall), with countless porcelain shards and glass fragments meticulously adhered one by one to the dragon's body. In 1973, artisan Mr Chong Chee Siong and the Housing & Development Board (HDB) planned, constructed, and built it.
The Dragon Fountain on Whampoa Drive was formerly part of a bigger park area. However, much of the park was annihilated to account for the Central Expressway (CTE), leaving just a small strip of ground in front of Block 85 Whampoa Drive to house the fountain.
The Chinese mythical beast's mouth used to shoot deluges of water in its brilliance days. At the point when vehicles passed it on the CTE Expressway, it was all the while heaving water, giving the unassuming impression that it was the Guardian of Safety along the stretch of road. Lamentably, the fountain stopped to work around the mid-1990s.
The dragon is a powerful and authoritative emblem. The Whampoa dragon fountain is said to have been erected in tandem with another dragon pillar motif in Lorong 3 Toa Payoh for Singapore's prosperity.
The Whampoa Dragon Fountain Statue was taken over by the Moulmein-Kallang Town Council in 2012, and the dragon was restored by applying anti-algae treatment and adding landscaping around the sculpture.
The structure is still being maintained by the Moulmein-Kallang Town Council. The fountain, on the other hand, will remain dry since water in the basin will cause maintenance issues and mosquito breeding.
