The facilities is one thing. I totally get there is limited space/machines and can fully empathize with this. IT'S THE STAFF!!! They are the worst and borderline harass me every time i'm there - without fail. I've been yelled at, questioned and critiqued for every little thing that I do and even sent to the other Toa Payoh Active SG because they didn't know the answer to one of my questions and figured the best solution would be to send me to another branch. It's like these guys have been trained to be on a power trip each and every time they show up for work and subsequently abuse that power whenever they see fit. Customer experience, empathy and (as a result) communication is everything in this day and age. Please recognize this and train your staff accordingly.

Bought the monthly peak package then realised it is almost impossible to have the treadmills and cross trainer. Have finally decided to give up after 2 weeks of try. Waste money. Anw, for cardio machines, there are only 2 treadmills and 1 cross trainer, and the rest are cycling due to safe distancing, and I booked 9-10pm slot whenever there are slots avaiable. Cardio machines are limited to 30mins per use and auntie will start asking people to stop at 10pm sharp at 9.50pm so you can just leave if there isnt any machine still at 9.30pm.

Separate cardio (treadmills, spin bikes etc.) area from weights area, a bit cramped like a hotel gym. I really only book this gym when I need a easy and fast workout, and the larger gym at TPY swim complex has no more slots.

The worst gym ever. No where does it say the gym is split into two room. The free weights room can only accommodate 13 people. The other room is tiny with a few treadmills, ellipticals, and machines. If you don't arrive early for the free weights, consider your money and time wasted for coming here. (This review was written during COVID restrictions)

Crowded. Kids keep hogging the bench and whichever machine names available. Worst is when they dont wipe and having a group of 4-5 people to share one machine.. During pandemic they can run with a more appropriate number of people in gym, but now no more liao. Now back to rojak.

After travelling to 14+ countries and training at more than 100 different gyms - this gym earns the award for “world’s worst gym”. Here’s why: upon our first visit, the old staff members laughed at us for not having the app downloaded instead of politely letting us know that we are required to download the app, top up funds and we’ll be ready to access the facilities. Furthermore, the two old(er) male staff continued to not believe that my partner and I are from Australia and continued to bicker and smirk at us. Hence, after 10-15 mins of trying to use the useless app to co-ordinate all of this, we decided to move on with our day and go to another gym instead. Moral of the story: avoid this gym like the plague unless you want a couple of old(er) men to talk nonsense as if they’re mr. Olympias yet neither of them have ever lifted a dumbbell heavier than 10kg by the looks of it.

(2022: this review is outdated as they’ve made changes since. See newer reviews.) Small gym, kind of like a hotel gym. Cool and well lit. Entered from the adjoining multi-storey car park, it’s located inside the Toa Payoh West CC, so floor space is limited. There are several machines, but no serious dumbbells (only up to 3kg), let alone barbells. The machines allow you to work out most but not all muscle groups. Rows and bicep curls are examples of moves not catered for. This gym is more for those just looking for time on the treadmill.

If you are out of luck booking the available time slots for the more popular gyms like the big Toa Payoh one, you will have to settle for this. This gym is located on the 3rd floor of the Toa Payoh West CC. There’s 2 separated rooms for this gym, one is for all the Cardio machines, and another pictured below is the Free Weights room. They are not connected, so if you want to switch between work outs, you have to awkwardly walk outside the corridor and go to the other room. The free weights room can overcrowd really quickly, as most equipments are limited in a single set of each. 1 cable machine, 2 bench, and 1 squat rack. Overall, if you are into doing a lightly workout using dumb bells, and some light bar bells, those are easy to share. Otherwise, skip this place if you are doing your heavy squat or dead lift sets.
