If you are like me, someone who loves a meal which is fulfilling, heart (and stomach) warming or just plain crave for comfort food, this is the place for you. The ingredients are fresh and you have a relatively wide choice of deep fried fish head, deep fried dory fish meat & fresh batang fish slices. All three fish items can be served in soup with rice or soup with thick/thin bee hoon /e-mee in either the milky white soup or their special Tom Yum soup. The fish head is quite meaty compared with other places where you need to work to look for the meat and the meat is still moist even though the item is already deep fried. The dory fish item is chunky and it is not due to a thick layer of batter either. You get a good portion of about 5-7 pieces of fish meat and these pieces are not over fried until it is dry on the inside. The fish chunks are still moist, not fishy tasting, and the layers will flake off as you bite into it. The fish should be taken with the supplied chilli padi to give the kick to the bite. If you are not keen on setting 'fire' to your mouth, the meat is good and tasty enough by itself. As I have not tried the batang fish slices, I am unable to provide a review. Looks like I gotta get another chance to try out the Batang Fish slices the next time! The white soup base is flavoursome but it is white not from stewing the fish bones but from addition of evaporated milk. Although I prefer the soup stewed in the traditional way, this way of whitening the soup by adding milk taste acceptable. The white soup taste even better if you request for additional Chinese Shaoxing cooking wine to be added! The wine is usually added to remove the fishiness of the soup at other stalls but at this stall, the wine actually imparts into the soup an additional flora fragrance as there is no fishiness in the first place. You can taste the natural sweetness of the fish bones in the soup. The stallholders also add crunchy greens to the dish before it is finally topped with crispy deep fried shallot bites and ikan bilis bits before serving. This last additional adds some crunch & flavour to the soup. Let me declare, I love spice! Calling all hot-heads, you will love their Tom Yum soup base! The soup is spicy hot that is lightly sourish (not as sour as normal Tom Yam) with a slight sweetness. The stallholders adds spicy marinated Wongbok (Chinese Cabbage) to the mix. This latter addition actually looks more than Korean Kimchi than vegetables included in traditional Tom Yum. Looks aside, it taste good and complements the choice of fish meat or fish head. The texture of the vegetable is very soft and it literally melts in your mouth. I don't know if the wongbok is absorbing the spices from the soup or if it is the one spicing up the soup, ether way, it taste great!

One of the best fish soups I've had. Freshly fried fish (thinly battered - not like those full of flour), good sliced fish, tasty broth. All elements in the dish was spot on. Only drawback from giving it a 5 star was the long queue!

Queued about 30 minutes. Ordered thin bee hoon and add extra fish meat. The bee hoon is not cooked long enough so it is a but hard. The cooking is fast but the order taking is slow that’s why got queue. Plus a lot of invisible orders, people coming and then you wait longer as they are served first. Compared to the Maxwell Road hawker centre fish soup, Maxwell road is better.

-The food was very fresh and tasty. The soup was really nice. You could it healthy fish soup with affordable price, 5 dollars. - Always long queueing(30~40minutes) It’d be better to prepare fully charged smartphone for queueing. Opening hours are from 9am to 2pm, so avoid the early morning or late afternoon. >>Must try! It’s worth waiting? After eating I feel like I'm recharging my strength. Recommend sliced fish soup with milk.

An above-average bowl of fried fish bee hoon, with an outstanding broth: flavourful ginger-laced creamy broth with milk.

This is definitely my must go place for meal if I am at Balestier. But you must always be prepare to queue for average 45min. They used to have $3, $4 and $5 options but now it’s only $5. Portion is good enough for a decent meal. The fish soup is one of the best. As for service, they really take care of the seniors and serve them their food so they don’t have to stand there and wait. Well done. Support local.
