Extremely unpleasant experience working with this group of contractors on electrical works for our new office. The communication from the beginning was pleasant, until it became unpleasant. I don't blame the workers, because after all, they take instructions. However, the office management staff has got to take pride in their work. LEW project took over a month, which will be understandable if there was communication. I was liaising with the office admin throughout, as told by the firm's boss. I told the office admin that I have gotten the go-ahead to proceed with electrical works, so they could come down at any day, including weekdays. But no communication, none at all, and it became apparent because the boss later asked if they could come on a weekday since we are way behind schedule. We have been updating them with our next steps(moving in of furniture, pulling extension wires etc), admin takes over a day to reply to every message. We told them that we have moved in our furnitures and will pull extension wires of which they simply acknowledged. The boss then said we should not have pulled the wires (and not suppose to move in furniture) before testing works and wanted us to pay for them to tear down and then install the wires back. I obviously was not about to swallow it because why we should fork out additional costs due to their unprofessionalism? This was ultimately waived in the end. (Everything was in email and in Whatsapp messages, so I was able to justify) Workers came, tore down our existing wiring and said they would come back the next day to continue the work. Did not turn up. Called the admin, admin said the workers are not coming. Imagine the frustration at this point. I was nice about it and said “I hope this does not happen again and if there’s a change of schedule, I will be in office till late at night” and so I waited for them and thankfully the workers turned up at evening to fix the mess (like broken wire covers they left behind) Day of testing came, and there was drilling involved which again was not communicated to us and us situated at an office building, drilling during office hours was not allowed. From day 1 I have communicated to them about the rules that we have to follow (Including works involving loud noises like drilling), of which was once again clearly not conveyed. May I also add that our equipment was drilled into by them without prior consultation with us? We were lucky that our neighbors did not complain about us to the building management. It appears that we are difficult to work with. But I hope they remember how in the beginning of our partnership I had not interfered in their work and placed full trust in their expertise (as how I am with the other contractors). However, subsequently I had to be around and make sure that they get things done properly because I simply lost trust in their professionalism. Regardless, we made our payment on time and thanked the workers for the work. I am not sure if this is the fault of the boss/es for failing to train their staff, or is it the fault of the office administrators for their incapability to communicate. Very, very disappointing and stressful experience.
