The soup for pork rib and shrimp noodle here is one of the best I had in Singapore. And it's cheap for the size in market. Therefor, a long queue for at least 20 mins queuing time is expected, whole coffee shop is crowded and hot. Uncle there is not so friendly as for the high stress work and heat. Make sure order clearly to aviod argument?.

The economy rice stalk is the best. Never fail me so far. Very glad to know they even have a brown rice option now. Fish head curry is very tasty but you'll have to pre-book

Lor Mee, Prawn noodle price has gone up from $3.50 to $4.00 (14%, higher and earlier than GST hike). Do continue to patronise him if you don't mind his loud and somewhat threatening questions: SMALL/MEDIUM/ LARGE? TAKEAWAY/EATING HERE? YOU MUST TELL ME (without me asking). I wonder how many of you decided long ago not to have anything to do with him despite his somewhat tasty food. But his short term memory has a large capacity to remember the various permutations behind the orders. The real heroine is of course his wife (I presume) who churns out the noodles promptly and correctly each time. I wish them luck.

Many good stalls, the best coffeeshop arou nd this area. Enjoy the breakfast here. The wanton noodle and fried carrot cake are my favourite breakfast choice.

Quite spacious and well ventilated place. The floor is clean too (at the time of visit). Food stores are run by families and quality of food is so far good based on my experience with a few stores that I have patronised.

Bak Chor Mee (SGD $3.50) @ Chop Joo Hiong Noodles. . This stall actually does a good child-friendly version of bak chor mee, using a rich tomato sauce that results in an appetizing vegetal sweet savoury gravy, very nostalgic. . The regular version with black vinegar and sambal chili is decent enough, with the mee pok / wide flat egg noodles here having a more chewy texture than elsewhere. . Of note are the pork meatballs with a small hollow centre, carrying a burst of meaty savoury salty flavour from the meat gravy within. . . . Carrot Cake / Chye Tow Kueh (SGD $3) @ Chop Joo Hiong Carrot Cake Fried Kway Teow. . Fried Carrot Cake / Chye Tow Kueh is my favourite dish of all time. I love it so much that, on average, I eat it at least once per week. And in weeks I'm out of town, I eat more of it on my return, just to make up for the missed experience. . This stall does a style I like, where the carrot cake is chopped into really small cubes, and slathered with egg. It's moist and soft with crispy bits that make it satisfying. . The black version is decent enough, with mild sweet savoury eggy spice flavour. I prefer the white version, which has a lovely savoury sweet eggy spice flavour with smoky aroma. . . . Char Kway Teow (SGD $4) @ Chop Joo Hiong Carrot Cake Fried Kway Teow. . While more well known for their chye tow kueh, they also serve a pretty decent rendition of char kway teow. . The chunks of chewy lup cheong / dried cured pork sausage with meaty savoury salty flavour, and the tender fish cake with sweet savoury flavour, stand out here. . They use more egg, resulting in a wet wispy sweet savoury goodness that is rather pleasing, complementing the light smoky wok hei / breath of the wok aroma of the noodles. . The drizzle of lime juice, with its tangy zesty sour notes, lends a nice contrast to round out the dish.

Came to buy porridge but it was closed pretty early (6pm ish). The rest of shops are selling at lower price but the taste is not great. We had specifically very bad experience with the Western Grill shop.
