Had my usual order with cabbage, fried egg and pork chop. Worth a try if you’re in the mood for some curry rice!!

I come here almost every week for hainanese curry rice! Usually i order pork belly, egg, tofu and cabbage because i find these tastes the most delicious. The auntie is so kind and she gives me extra curry sauce everytime i ask for more huhu. Hainanese curry rice can never go wrong!!

Finally had a chance to try the highly acclaimed Hainanese curry rice stall! Tapao due to HA. Ordered my usual combo - pork chop, braised pork, cabbage and fried egg. Curry was pungent and rich, lots of spice! Generous amount was drizzled over my pack of rice. Shiok. The only downside is the powdery aftertaste… a sign of too much curry powder used? Maybe. Overall a decent curry rice meal. Pork chop was pretty legit. Would be back for more.

Came on a weekday and as usual do expect a queue for the lunch crowd. There’s really quite limited options in terms of ingredients, so I simply ordered everything which wasn’t too expense nor overwhelming to finish. Taste wise, I’m just not too impressed. These days even the quality of curry rice at ‘EAT’ chains are pretty good. The curry at this stall is just overpowered by the curry powder. It felt like someone mix the wrong portions of curry or water. There’s also negligible coconut milk taste. Finished the meal but left feeling not too satisfied.

Wonderfully ugly delicious curry rice with a kick. My dishes of choice were the crispy pork chop, tau kwa, and cabbage. All drenched in rich curry gravy. Recommended.

I had to pass by this coffee shop very often, at least once a month as I visit Kwan Im Tong to pray since I usually prefer to park at Bugis plus. There are plenty of eats here, but I do not patronise much for two main reasons, for one there's a very bad seats to stalls ratio, meaning if you did not get to reserve a seat ahead at peak lunch time, you might find yourself with a plate of food and walking round and round for awhile. For two, especially about Hainanese Curry Rice, my usual favourites are the Tiong Bahru rendition, or the Nearby Scissor Cut. Eleven Fingers Eu Kee is barely on my radar. Also when I pass by during other visits, I barely see a queue at this stall. Today though, for the 1st day on the lunar calendar, I passed by again after praying, caught the craving for some gooey curried hainanese goodness and its near 3pm, kinda late to visit Loo's so why not settle and try. There's a 4 person depth of a queue due to the lunar calendar occasion. OK let's do the meal set. I can tell from the pictures describing the set, you get the best offerings of braised pork belly, curry chicken wing, stewed cabbage and a fried egg. Absent the principal Hainanese Biscuit Pork Chop but the key essence of great curry rice seemed all present. Hey I am legit Hainanese! Ha! While in the queue, an aged senior skipped the queue, walked straight up, paid and got his $5 set immediately ahead of us all in the queue. Hey I am not complaining, props to the stall for taking care of the seniors first. But when it's my turn, I got my ordered set, I was charged $6.30. Okay so the sign says a 30 cents increment, but did they raised the meal set price of $5 to $6? Hmmm, anyhow I was ready to Tuck in. For a start, the quality of the sauces. In essence, a mix of both braised sauce and curry chicken sauce completes the magical symphony with rice, and that's the essence of Hainanese Curry rice. The braised sauce here is thick and strong with strong anistar and cinnamon flavours, but dark soy sauce and pork umami is absent. The curry chicken sauce is too mild and honestly quite bland. Also the rice is mushy and cooked overly soft. It's objective is probably to make for an easy slurp for the old folks living around here I suspect, but not my idea of great Hainanese Curry rice. While the curry chicken wing, and stewed cabbage are oh-so-tender and especially the Wing's meat are fork tearing fall off the bones soft, the dry and fatless pork belly to me is a sad fail. Fuffy drenched fried egg is okay, and lastly I do not know what is a factory supplier ngo hiang style flat fish cake is doing in this mix. Probably this is where the extra $1 comes about. It does nothing for me or this dish. So it might not be anywhere close to my favourite Hainanese Curry Rice afterall, but I guess the friendly stall aunties are doing the aged folks around here a great service. Props to that. Updates 18 March 2022 Came by for some delicious Braised Pork Belly and curry rice. Ordered only Braised Pork Belly, Chup Chye, Fried egg. Again the fried egg was overdone. Braised pork belly was generous, loads of it in good size slices but today's was a tad dry again, should have just went for the curry chicken wing. Chup Chye crunchy but could be more flavourful. Comforting curry rice nonetheless but not one to compete with Beach Road scissors cut or Loo's but great value. My plate of gooey comfort rice only cost $4.30. You can't get that at most Veg Rice stalls nowadays much less Hainanese Curry Rice.

Messy gooey goodness all in a plate. Curry sauce is slightly spicier than most stalls, pork chop is very well marinated and retains some crunch even when drenched in sauce. More limited choices of dishes but can't complain for the value and quality.
