My dad had an object stuck in his tyre and I google searched the nearest tyre shop and found this place. He was full of praises - they removed the object and did an quick inspection without any charges. He will definitely be back in the future when he requires change of tyres. Kudos to the team!

Summary === Overall, a positive experience throughout. The father-and-son team were polite, patient with my queries, and took pains to explain how they’re not chopping my carrot. An honest and humble family-run shop that offers reasonable prices, professional service, and deserves greater recognition and business. Details of experience === My Nissan Sylphy left front tyre suffered a puncture with the nail still embedded. The nail had kept the air from escaping for the past 2 days, but I needed a more permanent solution. A Google search showed there are 2 repair methods : (a) the traditional worm/injection external patching method that doesn't require taking out tyre and can be done at roadside, vs (b) internal patching ,where the tyre needs to be removed for the inside to be patched. (b) was supposed to be a stronger and more permanent method. Found Guan Hin & Co after a Google search. Called the shop and was informed by Ben, the elderly boss's son, that they only do external patching, if doable at all depending on position and angle of 'wound '. I decided to give them a try, and drove to the Balestier Road public carpark behind the shop. I happened to interrupt Ben who was having his meal, but he immediately put down his food and guided me to drive my car back out of the carpark and reverse park near the carpark exit, literally right behind the shop. This was needed as the shop doesn’t have a dedicated indoor workshop area to do the actual tyre repair. The elderly boss then placed a big hazard sign to make sure cars approaching the carpark gantry can safely see mine. The elderly boss jacked up my car, looked over the problem and gave his assessment/advice: 1. The puncture was not repairable as the nail was embedded on the sidewall, rather than the main contact surface. So patching, whether external or internal, will at best be a temporary solution. 2. Need to replace both front tyres so that the car is balanced 3. The two original front Bridgestone 195/60/R16 tyres XX ($150+ EA bought in Jan 2019) were replaced with Pirelli 205/55/R16 XX ($115 no GST). The latter are more generic in size and more readily available in Singapore, which will ease future replacements (in contrast, the Nissan Sylphy 2014 tyre size is unique and hard to find). He highlighted that his Pirelli tyres are made in Romania, not in China (they exist). They’re also more value for money compared to Japanese ones. 4. When I asked if his shop carried cheaper tyres ($80-90), he replied that those tend to be China tyres, and are poorer in quality. On what could be done with the relatively new front right tyre that has been replaced, we explored options and his honest advice was: 1.The shop won’t take it in as trade-in offset cos the Nissan Sylphy tyre size is unique as mentioned above. 2.I can’t quite use it as a true spare tyre cos it’s thicker than a normal spare tyre, and cannot fit into the boot spare tyre compartment 3.I should keep it as a spare tyre at home in case one of my original rear tyres get a puncture and need to be replaced. Just need to bring it to the shop. With all my questions answered, I gave the OK to proceed. Assisted by Ben, the 2 tyres were speedily replaced within 10-15 min. Ben even showed me scratch/clamp marks inside the wheel rim caused by poor workmanship when the previous mechanic replaced our tyres. In terms of payment, the shop unfortunately does not accept credit cards or Nets, due to high commission fees. Fortunately, other than cash, they also accept PayNow, PayLah. No worries if you’ve not done this before. Ben is IT-savvy and will help you along the way. I was done in a jiffy, though I’ve not made a PayNow transfer before. Overall, a positive experience throughout. The father-and-son team was polite, patient with my queries, and took pains to explain how they’re not chopping my carrot. An honest and humble family-run shop since 1974 that offers reasonably prices, professional service, and deserves greater recognition and business. Fully-deserving of their 5.0 star rating on Google Reviews.

Have been visiting Guan Hin & Co for all my tyre needs for years since my first car. Ben (young boss) is very friendly, and always dishes out the most logical advice when it comes to tyre choices. Having been to many other tyre shops too, I never once felt I was being pressurised or hard sold with Ben. It's very rare to find a family owned business nowadays with a personal touch, and they sell you what you need at very competitive prices. Never would they bait you and then conjure things about your tyre just to make you change/spend more with them. This is probably why their customers are repeat customers for many years. If you are looking for a honest tyre shop, do check out this unassuming shop along the bustling street of Balestier and look for Ben!
