Hanis Cafe & Bakery @ National Library - 100 Victoria St

This outlet used to be my favourite hangout place after going to the library. But it’s standard has dropped and the tables were so filthy when I visited few weeks ago. Menu items are so limited. They don’t have western set nor curry chicken. Only breakfast set. I hope the management do something labour it.

We had tummy churn about half a day after the meal here. Already felt the curry had too much starch when eating it. The carrots on the chicken chop were not fresh and my toddler just spit out every one she tried (because she love carrots and cannot believe every one tasted so weird). First time I gave a 1-star because I want to caution others on food that are not safe for consumption.

Staff attitude can be improved. I had to repeat “no grilled tomatoes” thrice before the cashier heard me because staff kept talking among themselves. Only remembered to mention takeaway when paying, and the kitchen staff alluded that I tried to evade paying the $0.30 surcharge.

Large outdoor seating area and reasonably priced drinks, cakes, muffins, etc. The Kopi and lemon tea are around $2 making it a very economical choice but better atmosphere than a hawker center. They also have all day breakfast.

Good place to get a coffee or tea to chill with a book, or meet up with a friend to catch up, the menu is reasonably priced. I wouldnt say the coffee is great, but at a cheap price its good. If you sit outside the restaurant, its windy and shaded from the Sun. And its generally a quiet area where you can chill with a book borrowed from the library. The staff are efficient. So far the cleaners clear the table quite fast, but the queue could get long at peak hours. About the coffee, i think it would be wise for them to get a coffee machine, instead of getting the poor aunty to make so many cups every day with no consistency in the taste. If the coffee taste is consistent and good, I bet there will be more customers coming. A coffee machine will solve the problem.

Was there alone for a bite around 5pm and was during a heavy downpour! ? Had ordered an all day breakfast set. Nothing much to comment except the scrambled egg was done pretty good. All the items in the set were either hot or warm. But the baked beans were served cold! Would definitely be great if they can warm them up abit. The staff were polite too. But would advice not going there if you have more than 2 people as there were many "phantom" customers occupying large tables and talking for hours till kingdom come with just a cup of drink. Its much easier to find tables for 2 people there. Would want to try their fish & chips there someday.

They have a really nice location, really nice staff, and an okay menu (execution is not bad too!). But the cafe is absolutely filthy - tables are stained all over with tea and coffee drips, the seats are littered with crumbs, and there are coffee drips even on the windows and sides of the windows. This cafe has the potential to be awesome - it's located in the heart of town, in the shade of the National Library Building, with great ambience and a great breeze - but you walk in, and you instantly feel icky. I wanted to love this cafe, but I just can't. Hoping a new operator takes over the location soon.

Wanted curry chicken but ran out so was asked to take chicken stew. I must say this is the most disgusting-looking chicken stew I have ever seen in my life and I am generally not that particular about food. But this looks quite yucky. In fact, I think my photo made it look better than it is. Taste wise, it is very average. Public service announcement - please just skip this.
