Havelock Hainanese Curry Rice - 49 Sims Pl

Prefer this style of crispy pork chop than the meaty ones. I like to drench my rice with lots of curry, paired with chap chye and an egg.

My go-to Hainanese curry rice. Reasonably priced and definitely worth the queue.

When it comes to Hainanese curry rice, I'm a purist - It must be prepared by a Hainanese! :-) This Sims Vista hawker centre stall is a dying breed. The semi-lean pork chop is thinly sliced, lightly battered and marinated with 5 spice powder. So every bite is a perfect crunchy yet juicy piece of 'Hainanese pork chop heaven'. The old style semi-crunchy chap chye is cooked with heybee (small dried shrimps) to add to its tastiness. The belly pork (not in pic) and taupok are slow braised over days so they are super flavorful (has a hint of sour clove). $4.50 curry rice: Pork chop, chap chye, 2 pieces of taupok, 1 fried egg (all generous portions) and loads of curry. Excellent value!!

Extremely sad how low the standards of Hainanese curry rice has sunk at some places. The lean tough strips were very thickly coated in a prawn paste batter and deep fried beyond crunchiness to rock hardness. The curry sauce was a shadow of Loo's . Just curry powder, stock and water thickened with cornstarch to a viscous texture. Rice was grainy and sticky. Cabbage was hard in parts and soggy in others. Not upholding standards or heritage, sadly

There is always a queue most of the time during lunch time, a popular makan store for office workers and residents. Tried this place for the first time rice, fried egg, chicken cutlet and tow pokcovered in thick curry gravy ... hmm... it made for a satisfying meal.

Chance upon this stall inside Sims Vista hawker centre selling Hainanese curry rice the last time i was here. Decided to drop by today to try their food. Upon reaching, was greeted by this super long queue. There were close to 10 pax infront of me not to mention the queue behind me. However, the queue moved pretty fast and tooke about 15mins before it was my turn to order. Dish choices were pretty standard, pretty much the same to most curry rice stall. Picked 3 dishes, fried pork chop, stewed cabbage and the sunnyside egg. My meal cost me SGD$4 and the portion was generous. The fried pork has a strong prawn paste taste, it still remains crispy even after gravy were drenched over it. Cabbage was nicely braised, very soft and flavorful. Curry gravy was okay but one of the red gravy added in was quite sweet. Overall, pretty decent curry rice.would come back again to try the othet dishes.
