Now learning Japanese language at their Bukit Merah Lane 1 branch. Staff is friendly and helpful. Sensei teaches very well. Intuitive learning experience. ありがとう ございます。

Really bad experience. Bad lousy teachers who were not engaging and bad notes. The price is definitely much lower than other places but this was a complete waste of money.

My teacher is knowledgeable, positive and kind but she has no teaching skills. It's not her fault, the school is to blame for not hiring skilled teachers or providing her with adequate training. In 8 hours of lessons we have only had 20 minutes of real speaking practice. It's affordable but only if you are willing to teach yourself.

I have been taking Japanese classes through Zoom which best fits my busy schedule. I don’t have worry whether I’m working from home or office and having to factor travelling time, since I can just login anywhere. I have learnt to embrace Zoom as another highly effective platform for learning. Through dedicated teaching by Nakai Sensei and having an interest to learn, I have improved my conversational and written skills through interactions in class (where we are all given a chance to speak/ practice) and the occasional assignments that I crack my brains to complete. I meet a native Japanese living in Singapore weekly, and he is impressed by how confident and rapidly I’m improving each time. I also occasionally engage in casual conversations with native Japanese in Singapore at salons and restaurants, or LINE my friends in Tokyo whenever I’m bored ? To be honest, I sound like I’m raving but I was also initially skeptical at the start. I had even previously dropped out of a face-to-face class after just an hour; cuz I didn’t see myself learning productively (teacher was nice, but seemed childish with her teaching and I’m a boring working professional who values efficiency, lol). So I really didn’t had much expectations and was pleasantly surprised by how I’m currently enjoying my Zoom classes that still maintains high standards of teaching. Yes, my personal experience had been really positive. I would definitely recommend Nakai sensei ?? He is very experienced and helpful. I really appreciate his commitment in helping others to pick up Japanese.

Very unpleasant & disappointed experience in this school. Signed up for the $300 intensive morning lessons for elementary 1 (physical classroom) early this year. My teacher was an old Japanese male teacher. No basic lessons for hiragana/katakana, just asked us to learn conversation sentences straight by english translations, without explaining. The teacher just gave us some notes and tell us to memorise. In the end I go YouTube to learn the basic, including the ones he “taught”. The Teacher literally doze off in class!! While he let everyone take their turns to read the sentence, he have his morning nap….Very very unprofessional. How the lessons goes for “elementary 1” class: Give notes - teacher read one time - ask students to read one time - group in pair to read and practice themselves while he takes naps- give homework- finish class. after a few lessons i decided to quit the class (no refund) and went for other more professional teacher. Wasted my time and money.

The place is homely (literally) and the people are nice. However the teachers need to be trained better in teaching. A lot of English is used but I would have preferred a 90% Japanese instead because input through listening helps a lot for new learners to learn. If you are looking for a place where (1) you can self study (2) you want to work on your writing skills and (3) pay affordable rates, you can sign up with them. Honestly, conversation and in class practice takes up 5 minutes out of 40 hours of lessons. Everything is just touch and go with not much depth and practice. No interactive lesson. Teacher simply uses the book and goes through page by page. Other time will be spent doing homework (which I would prefer to be done at home). If I do not learn speaking in class with other learners, then who do I speak to?

I’ve been learning Japanese from HJLS for almost 2 years. From Elementary 1 and 2 to current Advance 1. Lesson is affordable and class size is just nice. Lesson conversation is using English and Japanese. Sensei will also try to use Chinese and a bit of Malay in the conversation too? Recommend for those who want to pick up Basic Japanese. 先生が親切です!
