Lai Huat Signatures (Geylang) - 387 Guillemard Rd

Tried this at siglap a few years back, found it pricey and too dry. The Lover has yet to try so it is a must-do although I did give him my thoughts. So we ordered the emperor leaves, sweet and sour pork and The Fish. Found it rather a waste of calories as the sweet and sour pork, was quite a fail. Yes it was crispy, but that is because u can hardly taste any pork in it! It is very thin “slice” and not like the usual cubed version, all u get is a lot of fried dough. The belacan is indeed fragrant and nice but the fish was too oily and dry. The belacan is done dry style too. Personally, I think it would be better done as a wet sambal to balance. I doubt I will eat it again.

Signature SB fish was on the mark, as with rest of side dishes, h’ever, fish head steamboat & crabmeat toufu were let downs. Courteous staff and swift serving probably mitigated the pricy meal.

Nice food with reasonable price. Sambal fish served is quite big for 2 and is crispy. Deep fried baby squid and Ha jiong chicken are nice too.

Been patronising since I was a child, can safely say I've been eating Lai Huat for more than a decade! Dishes that always hit: 1. Braised pork trotter I am serious, I think Lai huat here serves the best braised pork trotter in Singapore. If you're not a fan of fats like me, then request for skinnier trotter. The meat is so soft and it just melts, pair it with their homemade sambal, it's superb. 2. Fried mee swa This is soooo nice! I havent come across this elsewhere, since we dont order from the menu Im also unsure if it's a hidden item ? but it's really fragrant and comforting. Do try it! Ingredients that comes with their noodles and rice are always very fresh too! 3. Fried kangkong Belly belly good. Because their sambal is so good I often finish one saucer on my own before my food comes, the kangkong cooked with it just can't go wrong! I also like their just nice wetness to the kangkong! Subjective dishes: 1. Sambal balacan fried fish Im not a fan of pomfret so personally I prefer this dish with another fish ( i think they use grouper/seabass). Because the fish is deep fried so some may feel that it's quite wasted on a piece of good fresh fish. But but, this is still very shiok if you are a fan of fried savoury food! I dont order this all the time but i will have cravings for it sometimes! 2. Black pepper crayfish I love this. But it's at this section because I have tons of feedback from my family that the crayfish is too hard sometimes. I like such texture nonetheless and find the black pepper very fragrant.

Over rated sambal fish. The Sambal is good but the fish is not crispy enough and too oily. The lala bee Hoon is good.

A good location for tzechar. Food are served pretty promptly and they do priortise dine-in orders over pick-up. The prices on the menu are nett with no service charge or gst. Highly recommend ordering the dry horfun. It has got really good wokhei and seasoned just right. The homemade tofu with crab meat is good as well. The others were a hit and miss. Only downside is the service. One of the service staff was really grumpy. Could feel that she was overwhelmed with orders and also managing the crowds especially with the new COVID-19 dine-in rules.

First visit at 8pm on a Monday and it’s about 70% occupied. I’m impressed with their seafood white bee hoon. However spring onion chicken is quite salty and it’s based on fried chicken. Price wise it’s 20% higher than a typical cze char stall.

This Zhi Char restaurant is suitable for group dining … the portion is hugeeeeeeee. I love that they are very generous in putting a lot of ingredients in each and every dish. For example, we ordered oysters omelette and when we cut in, we found a lot of oysters in every piece. Don’t go alone!!! Go in a group!!
