The owner doesn't even pick up calls and always ignore messages....... Smh

Terrible owner Samuel / Robert Lee.

The owner robert lee is not really a nice person to deal with in the first place. My kid is afraid of him, and therefore hates going there for classes. Weird that someone with his same chinese name is being sued for bankruptcy on 10Dec2020, not sure if it is indeed him

please notice they have moved to coronation plaza second floor, Anyone who wants their child to learn chess in powerchess asia, please think carefully , I don’t recommend , especially for the beginner, they will just let your child sit down there and play with other kids for 2hours, some times got teacher teach them, but most of the time let your kids play with other kids,and the most important thing is don’t believe the oldman Boss Samuel Lee. Everything come out from his mouth , the most of them are nonsense.

Won a small claims case against Powerchess aka Samuel who is the owner and teacher and administration of this outfit. He requires a huge amount for a trial lesson and after you do not like what you see (which is guaranteed given that they are babysitting not teaching chess skills in any proven manner) he will disappear. Ask for your money back or a real teacher and he will just ignore you. Buyers beware. Please find another place to learn chess! Letter of demand for money order filed. Your money will disappear and he will just ignore you. He should be banned from continuing such a scam.

Beware!! worst tuition center I have ever been. Unprofessional and bad business practice are the words I can describe the owner there. The so called receptionist/owner/coach (the same man - Samuel) was teaching my son chess (private session for $80 a session) while texting, picking up the calls and greeting his future clients at the same time. The class was full of interruption and he doesn't seem to think there is an issue with it. I have paid for the camp and another private lesson in advance (total of $440). Requested for a refund after the unprofessional class but Samuel went radio silence. In the registration form, there is no clause stating no refund nor no cancellation. I had to use someone else's phone to reach out to him. He said he doesn't want to have anything to do with my son but insists on keeping my money. He will get another coach to coach my son but said he will call the police if i get closer to his premises and make a scene. I think he thinks too ahead - probably by playing too much chess. Anyway if any parents still want to go there after my notes above, I will give you my 440 worth of credit for 200. contact me!!! However, I would not let my kids to learn from this so called "grand-master". You don't want your kids to pick up the shameless manner from the school there. Power chess = bad business practice!!! the owner Samuel is shameless. Waste 400 to see how ugly a person can be. I am filing for small claim court to get my money back!

I think some of the reviews here are exceptionally harsh. I'm not sure the guy who runs the place necessarily runs it to please people, but if you're serious about learning chess (as in national level tournaments etc), then this centre has some of the best coaches around. That's probably why they have survived and attract students despite the reviews here which are unfortunate. Go with your eyes open.
