This club has developed me physically and mentally to prepare for the triathlon and cross-country races that I participate in. Joining this squad has benefitted me and this can be seen from the successes from my past races.

Entering the world of triathlon and joining SWN, for almost a year, has given me the chance to come together with like-minded people who share a common interest in triathlon. A few of my teammates, who have been in the sport for a long time, would share their tips and invaluable experiences with us. Hearing their first-hand stories is both encouraging and enlightening. Juggling school work, CCA and training in SWN is no easy task. Fortunately, my team Coach Jing Zhi (JZ) and teammates would advise me on my school work and ways to manage my time. When my CCA training gets too tough, Coach JZ will go easy on me by reducing my training load. He believes that recovery is as important as training and this keeps me injury-free. Before every racing season begins, Coach JZ will structure the training in accordance to our ability in the specific discipline and the key races we are focusing on. Brick sessions would be conducted weekly to simulate our heavy breathing and the lactic acid build-up in our muscles during the race day. This simulation plays a critical part in our race preparation. On the race day itself, Coach JZ and my other teammates, who are not racing, will drop by to show us their support. This is definitely a great morale booster to us. During the off-season, we would focus on doing strength and conditioning work. Coach JZ would conduct swim and run time trials occasionally to monitor our individual’s progress and adjust our training accordingly. Swimming has always been my weakest link. I used to have a phobia about open water swimming as I was afraid of shark attacks. After a few swimming sessions, I realised that it was not as scary as I thought. Swimming alongside with my teammates, gives me the confidence to overcome my fear. Coach JZ makes our training fun, yet the mini race at the end of each session keeps us on our toes. Another key factor that makes me enjoy swimming is the use of swim toys such as pull buoy, fins and paddles. It makes the training more interesting. On some Sundays, my teammates would organize long bike ride around the island. These impromptu riding sessions bond us closer together. Training under a qualified coach, together with a group of supportive teammates and with a well-structured training program make it possible form me to reach my full potential.

It's very revealing when I know Jing Zhi spotted my problems in my running. He evaluates all from my running form until which muscle that I need to activate more. He gave me tips and educate me with good source of knowledgeable information in exercise and experience. He will take you in depth to know your recent performance and give insights that will impacts your future performance. As a result you will get the best source and solutions to understand your movements better in sports especially running! Very recommended to have a session with him. Ps: he might take you on a video to show before after exercise so will give you more understanding about your natural movement. Thanks Jing Zhi!
