Superb condo facility, very green, extremely family friendly, lots of kids of all age groups, nice Olympic size Swimming pool, good management, great security, nice range of house sizes to choose from landed multi storie houses to apartments with 3-4 bedrooms, etc. Highly recommended!

Awesome condo! Great facilities.. Very peaceful. Big swimming pool.. Lots of walking space and trails around. Shopping places are a bit far which is the only trouble.

Quiet, leafy and spacious. It's proximity to Botanical Gardens and Farrer MRT provides plenty of public transport options. 50 m lap pool and toddler wading pool is a bonus.

Worst decision to start the total house renovation during the pandemic, when people mostly work from home. Noisy works all day long. Are you out of your mind?

loved our time at Sommerville, difficult in SG to find a condo that is so open and green. Facilities are good, but management group is out of touch unfortunately with most of the younger/family residents and often likes to introduce "fun police" rules

Overall, below average living experience. The estate itself is nice. Full suite of amenities, spacious, green, away from the main road. The upkeep of most units is good as many are rented out to expat families. The various cleaning and gardening crews have also been friendly and professional for the nearly 20 years I’ve stayed in this estate. However, there are drawbacks to an old, large estate with relatively few owners living on site (I believe some of the issues listed below could stem from a lack of volunteers for council positions). As an old estate, issues such as water leakage - a perennial spark point - are quite common. Another issue that has lingered is the β€œtermite infestation” at the lift lobby of a tower block that has taken nearly a year to resolve. There has also been an uptick of incidents of crime - theft and vandalism of property (someone threw a rock that shattered a car windscreen, keying of cars has happened at least once before, and defecation in the swimming pools is a recurrent problem that remains unresolved) in recent years. More CCTVs are being installed so hopefully this will improve. If you plan to stay near a tower block, do note that the squash court, open till 10pm, can be a source of annoyance because of the strong acoustics which amplify sounds. On lower floors, cockroach problems can be prevalent as the rubbish chute system in this old estate is expectedly dated. There is also potential for second hand smoke to waft into your residence from common spaces such as the carpark or lift lobby. Another gripe, for those who do not drive, may be the uphill 800m walk from the nearest mrt station. The drive up to the estate can also be hindered at times by tree-fall, although the frequency of this is improving as the older trees are being replaced. Similarly, there are old trees in the estate. One fell and damaged a car shelter recently. Thankfully nobody was injured. These are acts of nature and cannot be fully prevented without the removal of all greenery in the estate. Recently there has also been a flare up on the status of community cats. This in my opinion has not been adequately managed by the MCST - there has been a lot of misinformation (e.g. residents are urged not to feed cats when this is neither illegal nor disallowed in estate by-laws; or that cats can transmit covid), and insufficient communication. In a clear episode of in-neighborliness, a complainant even resorted to surreptitious filming of a cat feeder, disregarding their right to privacy in their own neighborhood. This estate is also near the botanic gardens. If you are bothered by nature, this estate is not suitable for you. There are frequent visits from chickens, grass snakes (which are harmless), monitor lizards, bats and exotic birds like hornbills. As stated above, there are also community cats, and a fair number of cat feeders (20 at least).

I have been living in a tower apartment unit for last 3 years, our stay has been quite good, love the nature, big estate, amenities, and most of all the community here. Since estate is old there might be some problems, but upkeep is well. And thus many units are renovated periodically. Facilities are nice and kept upto date including gym which has soa machines and equipments. Proximity via public transport is amazing, buses to Orchard, Holland, MRT station is a few min walk down hill.
