I used to work for SP Industrial (Shanghai) which is part of SP Group. I had worked for them for 2.5 years and left in mid 2010. There was no pay raise or any bonus every single year. The working climate is basically harsh as there was always nasty or four letter words hurled at the employees by the managing director (who is a Canadian). Many employees were asked to leave almost the same day. When I decided to leave the company, they told me that I had to pay about RMB 5,000 as the airplane ticket that I got for Chinese New Year is about RMB12,000. I had gotten the tickets in the proper channels (3 times/year as in the employment contract) and through their travel agent. The only thing is that for that year, the ticket price shot up quite a bit because of the peak holiday season. There was no mention of maximum price of the tickets anywhere in their contract or the company. Besides this issue, they also deducted 3 days of my work saying that I had not gone to work on those days. In actual fact, I went to Suzhou at their customer location as was asked by the MD to make a visit there. Without asking me they just deducted my pay. Altogether, they deducted about SGD1,400.00 from my pay. I tried to contact the HR and the accounts department, but they gave me the cold shoulder. When I went back to Singapore, my wife told me to just forget about the issue. Somehow, I felt very disappointed about the whole matter and I felt that as a company, they should never treat its employees in this manner.
