★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Orange Cube came highly recommended by relatives & friends who are satisfied past clients of Karen Bohn - for renovation projects which include HDB, condominium & landed. Feedback & reviews were consistently positive with regards to workmanship & professionalism. We were immediately convinced to engage The Orange Cube upon 1st meeting with Karen.
Having gone through a couple of house moves, we were no strangers to renovations. However, getting a good ID, was almost as elusive as a trip to the moon. Embarking on yet another renovation, we were excited & yet fearful of getting yet another rogue contractor (whose terrible & shoddy workmanship that will only show years down the road - if we’re very lucky, if not months). Karen’s patience & professionalism in handling us went over & beyond a normal ID. Though our project was possibly one of their smallest, we were never made to feel our project was any lesser than all the bigger landed projects they were handling concurrently.
Her years of experience showed in the extremely useful suggestions she’d made to us with regards to functionality & design. The result came out to be much more wonderful than if we’d gone with our original plan. One of them was to build a feature wall to have a bigger TV console area in place of the existing tiny area (which could only accommodate a small TV previously), as well as blended hidden doors for the rooms – one of which can be opened to create a seamless extended living room for hosting guests. The result is a fabulous condo lookalike living area which exudes a very cosy, resort like ambience.
Her attention to details is also highly commendable. Widened doorways (wheelchair accessible), ramps & smoothened corners were thoughtfully, yet inconspicuously integrated into plan as per request for house to be elderly & kid friendly. Space layout was also skilfully reconfigured from the limited space to provide a more spacious setting.
We’re sold on the fact that they’re NOT pushy, as opposed to majority IDs. Their willingness to listen as well as cater to our needs/wants, combined with our preferred design elements - & ability to infuse their creative touch & practical ideas harmoniously are indeed laudable.
There were inevitable hiccups as with any renovation. However we felt constantly reassured with our project in the good hands of Site Manager, Carson. There were project updates whereas available & he was highly responsive to all our queries as well as quick to clear any doubts that we had – from inception of project to handover. Carson never failed to ensure our project ran smoothly & iron any kinks that occurred in the most effective & timely manner as best as possible – which speaks volumes - having our renovations done during the lockdown period. His years of experience certainly lent a calm to rattled nerves. One unexpected event that popped up was a ceiling leak from our direct downstairs neighbour. Carson was able to identify & eradicate the problem very swiftly. Our neighbour was so pleased they’re contemplating a renovation with Orange Cube!
Workmanship wise, we’re very satisfied - with special mention to the artisan carpentry as well as tiling team. Carpentry quality is superb with smooth finish. We were amazed & impressed to see the wood grains for the drawers meticulously aligned so the kitchen cabinet look like a single piece from far. Tiling works are impeccable to mention the least! This can be highly attested to - by an occupant who enjoys nothing more than polishing every single tile in the house to a mirror shine. The effort & attention that went into the details of the above mentioned works are truly reflective of skilled craftsmen who are deeply passionate about what they do.
Our completed renovation works has not only impressed us (the occupants), but we have also received numerous compliments on the workmanship & design – some of which are from professionals in the same line of work.
We will certainly not hesitate to engage The Orange Cube, should we embark on any renovation works in the future.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My decision to engage Orange Cube to work with Karen Bohn as my ID for my penthouse project was the best decision for my house. Karen, together with a very experienced ProjectManager, Kevin Pereira, were two astounding professionals in the market. I owe it to Karen Bohn for the success of my beautiful home. From start to finish, Karen was impeccable in her quest to work with me. She was super patient, very creative as she pushed back on some of my designs to create even more aesthetic designs that wowed me. Her authentic leadership to steer and work on the final product for handover and experience were beyond expectations. Thank you Karen for making me a house proud owner with your astounding designs, impeccable workmanship and detailed and attentive professional service that you rendered. Totally recommend the one and only Orange Cube.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I do not understand why there would be any bad reviews here for Orange Cube because my experience with my designer Ashley and Orange Cube is exactly waaaaay opposite. Where the reviews said lack of responsibility with what was created, I would say this is among the biggest strength of Ashley and Orange Cube. Concrete examples are first, my 2 stoves were installed at opposite sides, diff from planned, and I was going to settle, however my designer supported me and made sure the vendor would do what was promised. Thank God she did because the usability of the stoves positions as originally planned is much better. Another example was I had an improvement on cabinet doors so that it can be easier to open, and despite it still is functioning, Orange cube was willing to make the amendments to achieve the superior craftsmanship and responsibility. There are many other more examples.... Literally, every inch of the renovation was thought of and for the client as me, nothing left to even an inch of non-satisfaction.
I also thought interesting a review about design not functioning well as head hit cabinet, and I don’t understand because in my experience everything was so detailed thought and my designer always, always, was able to catch issues with function over design, and we would discuss the preference. Many times she saw things I did not foresee and once I was handed the renovation, and started using the spaces, I felt the benefits of all her recommendation!
Another review said vendor didn’t fix an issue with aircon dripping, but in my experience, one of the best qualities of Orange Cube that I noticed is their vendor relationship! End of project I noticed vendors did not charge above what was quoted but provided many add on here and there because they also cared about just doing a good job. For example, I bought from electrician plug points but they delivered two plugs for each point instead of one! There are so many more examples...
My designer always so responsive, cordial, tolerant, patient, and many more... for example, we spent hours just reviewing one key measurement for a concern I had and she never was impatient!!
Another huge point for Ashley and Orange Cube is that I did not feel they were trying to extort me, like I felt with contractors. We did everything said within budget, and the add-on I wanted were charged reasonable because it was from a price list (not those fake price list that is double prices just because it’s add-on, ok?). What I liked from my experience with Ashley and Orange Cube is I always knew what to expect, even price. They are not those that over promise and under deliver and charge you double in the middle of project for add-on. I really felt it was a company into serious and honest business practice.
I urge anyone to go with a firm with designer and no less with a company as responsible, care for details and function, deliver beauty of design, have great vendors as Orange Cube and Ashley!! Not to mention, before Orange Cube I have quoted with contractors and let me tell you, no way; It’s recipe for disaster because the 3 quoted were not all less expensive and they had bad design ideas! They didn’t have the in house structure to handle all what was needed for any home renovation as Orange Cube possess, so it’s a recipe for disaster and you end up with problems. What I realized is 1) If project too small contractors just don’t deliver in reasonable time as they prioritize bigger projects once it comes in. You end up never getting your house back and stuck with payment done 2) I found contractors do not review design or provide 3-D; so like what happened to my friend that engaged contractor. She end up having a closet built but the contractor didn’t ask electrician to wire the light! She end up with a delivered renovation where a switch outside the closet doesn’t light the closet! 3)Designer really catch design issues that contractors do not! Some pp insist in installing beautiful TV storage in living room but didn’t review shape of living room and end up with boxed living rooms!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I shopped around making enquiries with several interior designers in Singapore, and was recommended The Orange Cube by a close friend. The Orange Cube offers end-to-end design and renovation services, from concept to implementation.
Karen was highly professional and personable, and we co-ideated a beautiful Japanese-Scandinavian floor-to-ceiling bookcase room partition and bed platform concept. Karen was in continuous communication, answering questions quickly and providing regular updates putting my mind at ease. She is very down-to-earth and very much understood my needs.
Once all permits were ready, the team worked effectively and efficiently to complete the work in only a few days, minimising the disruption experienced.
The team also helped undertake a photo shoot post-implementation, with both Esther and Sammie were very professional and pleasant to work with.
I'd definitely recommend The Orange Cube for design and renovations, and would be happy to engage them again for future projects.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Orange Cube team helped us transform an old condo apartment into what we proudly call our home. We are very happy that Karen was our designer. She helped us immensely by inspiring through her ideas, guidance on practicality and handholding in purchase of lighting and fixtures, suiting our taste as well as budget. Jason, Orange Cube's Project Lead, is an ultimate trouble shooter. There is hardly any design that he cannot deliver and if you miss something, his eye for details is your saviour. Orange Cube team is well versed with needs of all cultures, ages and tastes. Their excellent workmanship leaves nothing more to be desired. We are very happy we chose Orange Cube and Karen.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Do not recommend for the following reasons:
1. No design and design input. During our meeting I asked if our POC was an "interior designer" and he said "Yes". Unfortunately there is no design in our house at all. Anything you see and like in the photos was proposed by myself. We used Pinterest for references. Orange Cube (OC) would just agree, take the reference and apply it to the rendering. No input on how to make it better. Very soon OC became a "post box" to send our messages and comments to the other parties.
2. Not detail orientated, resulting in some strange and obviously wrong placements of furniture. a) See aircon unit - in rendering it was supposed to be in the centre of cupboard. b) See bedroom chandelier - was supposed to be centralised with wainscoting. Halfway through they changed the wainscoting measurement but not the lighting point, hence chandelier doesn't line up to anything now.
3. Lack of experience and cannot value add to many renno decisions. Opted for a mantle design. Originally the mantle was in direct contact with our marble floor with no wood board that you see in the photo. It looked cheap and incorrect. I raised concern and there was no solution provided. Most of the time the reply is "if you want to do this it's very expensive", which is not a solution. In the end I provided the solution and asked for them to put the board there.
Not pictured, TV placement was designed too high which has affected our neck/back posture. This was pointed out by the technician who came to install our TV. He immediately pointed out that it's "very high". This is something that we as new home owners would never have thought of and was hoping to get guidance from OC.
4. Make unnecessary and costlier recommendations. We wanted to change our cupboard door from light grey to dark wood to match the entire room. We assumed they would just paste a vinyl sticker over, cost maybe ~$100? Turns out they asked the carpenter to replace the entire wooden door at $1,600. You could say that we should have looked at the invoice closer, I agree, however in the end the door they fabricated was not the right measurement and could not be used.
While we were discussing this, OC asked us to give him the correct door measurements were so they could fix it. We asked them to come measure themselves, as they rightly should, we are not the contractors. OC never came. We were refunded for the door but not manpower. Seems we paid money to test and correct their mistake.
5. Unfair pricing. We were quoted $3,200 for one wall, ceiling to floor wainscoting (see second pic). Final product was wooden beading stapled to the wall and hand painted. Market price is around $1,000. Eventually they reduced the price to $1,200, but we had to get slightly ugly. I do not understand why the industry sets themselves up like that. I want to pay for your service, but why must it get ugly just so that we can pay fair value?
I do not have enough construction knowledge to comment on the rest of the prices. This wainscoting was particularly obviously overpriced as we were expecting a full headboard/spray painting etc.
6. Too much onus on customer to protect himself. If we did not ask specific questions, OC would just go ahead to do it. Eg: replacing cupboard door VS sticking vinyl But the issue is - how would we know what we are supposed to look out for and how do we know what to ask?
Positives:
- As a main-con, it was good that they coordinated everything for us so all in all it was hassle free. Maybe you will have a better experience if you are assigned a different POC.
- Overall I am satisfied with the final products. Handover was done 1 month ago.
