素食林 Vegetarian Forest Restaurant(Happy Realm) - 88 Bright Hill Rd

A good place to pray, yet there's a hidden gem ? to eat vegetarian food. This is especially useful after usual eating hours(4pm to 9pm last order 8pm) for affordable vegetarian food in the evening. The reopening of Su Shi Lin(素食林） or Vegetarian Forest Restaurant which had closed when the pearl center was demolished to make way for a new expressway in Singapore. The old Vegetarian Forest Restaurant are well known in the local Buddhist society for the traditional dishes and Tim sum. Their Ngo Hiang (素食五香）, vegetarian baos, chilli sauce, fried popiah, otah, siu mai etc are very famous and my family loves it. We all felt sad with the closure of Pearl center and Su Shi Lin restaurant. With the chef from former Su Shi Lin helming the new restaurant and reintroduction in Khong Meng Par Khor Si(光明山）, Su Shi Lin( Vegetarian Forest Restaurant) has introduced new dishes like hot pot ($13.80) per portion with a choice of Tom yum or vegetable soup base with unlimited rice serving. The volunteers there are really helpful and the hot pot is well seasoned and flavorful. My family enjoyed the Tom Yum hot pot alot, the soup is fresh, sour, spicy and clear, the ingredients on the other hand is filling but not that fanciful considering the value price. Kudos to the team. Another dish which is available for order in the evening would be the DIY popiah set. It comes with 8 popiah skins, a bowl of buang kuang filling with julienne French beans and shiitake mushroom. The accompanying popiah sauce, chilli and crushed peanut made the DIY popiah experience quite filling yet unique.($15) Thus, come and support la. Highly recommended for everyone. I hope they will reintroduce the fried Ngo Hiang back soon.
