Overpriced, under qualified. I went in to dye my hair, scalp was bleached and burnt and scanned and stained. Awful experience

I went for a haircut from Heidi (Vox Studios) a couple of days ago after reading the curly hair reviews on Lion City Curly FB Group. My hair was limp and lacked volume, so much so it started flattening out even on best styling days. During the cut, everything was going fine, she was very patient and cut the hair literally a few strands in a bit, which I quite liked. But then she styled my hair when fully dried. It was a lack lustre frizz ball and I felt disappointed with the process. The products she used weren't water soluble as i did a water wash the next day and they stayed on. A few days later, I did a final/clarifying wash, deep conditioned, styled with curly hair approved products, I'm so much happier. Will recommend her for the cut but not for styling or her products for curly hair.

I trust google review so I tried here for my hair since the reviews are so good. But in my opinion this is a very mediocre salon. I did perm (the hair designer recommended cold perm) and my hair didn’t show any curl.. When my hair was done he tried so hard to make it curly. Spent so long on drying my hair with the dryer. Anyway, I didn’t want to disappoint with this salon easily so waited 3days and washed my hair. And curl didn’t show. I called them and thankfully they gave me redone my hair (this time hot perm) but it just wasn’t a style the picture that I showed him and the curl doesn’t showing up much either. (It’s been a week) My hair’s been take color and perm very easily but not with this salon. Their service is good and staffs are friendly but as the quality of skills and the equipment (hair elastics popped up several time while my hair was hitting) I’m not sure.. I would spend S$330 and my time at Japanese or Korean salon. They need some study and improvement to look at those Japanese and Korean salon out there.

Update: Following this review Vox reached out to me and refunded me for the haircut aThey also offered vouchers for hair treatment which I have not had the time to avail yet. have curly and voluminous South Asian hair. I was recommended Hazel by the salon who is the sweetest, nicest hairdresser I’ve ever met. However, I am deeply disappointed with my haircut. It’s just a block of curls, with no shape, no regard for my face shape or hair texture. It has aged me. The styling was worse. I literally hopped of the chair, paid, and rushed out so I could run home and fix it to look presentable for dinner out. Hazel raked through freshly washed curly hair while drying it. I’d think for the money they charge they’d be familiar with curly styling 101 : never to open out curl clumps!!! My hair looked drab, curls were stretched and the frizz was insane as the hair dried. The hair and scalp treatments were good.

Was quoted a lower price for the hair treatment and asked to pay more at the counter as the stylist misquoted the price. Very unprofessional and disappointing experience. The stylist was also not able to communicate properly. I went for hair color and the stylist kept recommending treatments and basically nothing on color!

Sadly I wouldn’t recommend this place at all. It’s the Aveda brand that I love and a walking distance from home, their website boasts their expertise with expat hair but unfortunately it’s all not true. Had at least 4 appointments there, root tinting, highlights and it’s been shocking every time. All the stylists listed in their website don’t work there, every time you call and ask for an appointment with one of them they are all β€œout of the country” and they recommend a person who worked in Melbourne ra ra ra …. Shocking experience then apparently it’s because you have Caucasian hair. Just avoid this place.

I experienced discrimination and racism at this salon. I was told that a certain Asian stylist would only cut expat hair and not for Indian clientele. I find it bizarre because he is Asian and that we live in Singapore which is supposed to be a melting pot of cultures. The receptionist told me that it’s like an Italian chef won’t cook Indian food! I mean most of the renowned chefs do have a version of Indian food! I blame the receptionist who has no people skills, the stylist airways seemed open minded but I guess looks can be deceiving.
