After making commitment, completely ignored further calls and messages.

β β β β β Hi, I would like to share about the experience my husband and I have had with an adoption agency, in the hopes that our case serves as a cautionary tale for other couples looking to adopt a child.
At the beginning of April/late March 2021, I connected with Lakshmi from Amman Baby Adoption Services Private Limited, and told her about our intention to adopt. she informed me that she had identified a baby girl for us, who was due to be born in a few weeks. We patiently waited for her updates and things seemed to be going fine.
I shared with her that we had been scarred and very hurt by recent experience with another agent, who had identified for us a child from Vietnam, and for whom we had completed all the paperwork required by MSF and ICA. It was a logistical nightmare I don't want to go through again, which involved seeing our MP, but in the end we got all the approvals, only for the birth mother to change her mind at the last minute. It was a horrible experience of grief I do not wish upon anyone.
Anyway, having been so vulnerable due to the terrible experience I had with the Vietnamese agent, I shared our circumstances with her, and she assured us that with her, everything would be well taken care of, and that I did not need to worry.
We went on to clarify the fees she charged, and while she seemed slow in replying, we trusted that her intentions were sincere, and we knew our options were not amazing because of Covid restrictions on international borders, so we went ahead and told her we wanted to proceed for sure.
Weeks later, she told us that the baby was born on 16 April 2021. We asked for pictures and were very keen to proceed, but she said that the baby was still in the hospital, so no pictures. We waited patiently, even though it was difficult.
On 22 April, she said she would send us the pictures, most likely by that day. We waited, but still nothing.
One day later, we managed to get on the phone with her, and she said the baby had jaundice and had to stay in the hospital longer. She said she would update us.
So we just waited, and waited. We tried to call her and message her for updates every couple of days, but she did not respond. Most times her phone was turned off, our messages were left unread, and if they were read on the rare occasion, she would say that she was going to call us back because she was with a client or lawyer, but never did.
We were worried and anxious because of how MIA she was. She did not collect a cent from us yet, but she had verbally already promised that this baby was going to be ours.
On 29 April, she said that the baby would be discharged the next day, that she was busy with a local baby, so she couldn't take pictures and that she would update us the next day. The next day, we asked about an update, and again and she texted "with my lawyer now. Call you shortly please". but she never did call that day.
We kept calling her day after day in the days that followed, to no avail.
On 6 May, she finally responded and said she had just taken her Covid second jab, as some sort of explanation for going missing. She said she would call us the next day.
The next day, we asked to speak to her but again, she said "I'm busy now. I'll call you later." She never did call.
Till today, we have not been able to reach her to have a proper resolution to the matter. Did the baby disappear? Is the baby no longer up for adoption? We have no idea. Every other day, the uncertainty plagues me and I have no closure. I hope that other couples will guard their hearts well and not be stringed along with the likes of her and get your hearts broken.
If anyone can recommend an ethical, kind and reliable agent operating in this covid season, please reach out to us. We are already on all the waiting lists of local (singapore) NGOs doing child matching.
