Braised pork is very soft and tender. Braise sauce is think but not salty, with very nice soy sauce aroma and taste. The braised pork rice bowl comes with black fungus, sliced mushroom, boiled vegie, sous vibe egg, which are nice combo to braise pork.

Firstly, People trying this should see it as literally BRAISED + PORK rice and not expect it to be like the Taiwan Lu rou fan. Ordered the braised pork belly rice bowl $3.50 while the husband ordered braised shank $4.50 + add pork Ribs at $2.50. We arrived at 11.25am and queued for 20mins. The gravy is thick and not overly salty. It is flavourful however there wasn't alot of gravy in my pork belly bowl (theres quite generous gravy in my husband's bowl). The gravy looks dark so you may expect it to be super flavorful but it's not (otherwise it might actually be too salty). The meat is very tender and not very fatty as well. The portion was really just nice. I am so full at the end! The egg is really good, the other sides are average but got variety. Definitely worth a try if the queue isn't insanely long to the back. Be careful of the fish soup uncle coming over to scold the patrons queuing for blocking the passageway. Maybe this stall can consider buzzer queuing system? People will be happier to wait while sitting. PS: don't compare this to the Taiwan Lu Rou Fan stall in the same hawker centre. A bit different food. PPS: If the queue looks insanely long, probably come earlier next time and try instead and don't blame the owner too much. Sometimes just people in front mass order alot. It's not a stall to regret queuing.

Located on the first floor next to the staircase by the ATM machines, this is definitely one of the best places to get your fix of all things braised pork. The pork is perfectly cooked and is so juicy and tender. The gravy is also really good. Even the onsen egg was perfectly cooked. This is inspite of them having to handle a ridiculous amount of orders. The stall opens at 11.30am but when we got there at 11.15, there was already a line of people waiting. Expect to queue for this one but it is definately worth the wait.

Ordered the pork cheek set $8 that comes with superbly braised pork, one tiny piece of tau pok, some tofu, mushrooms and veg. The side dishes apart from the egg were good complements but quite normal. Loved the egg though. This meal was quite filling. Initially read comments about it not being filling enough but was quite wrong. Queue was around 30 min. I will unlikely queue for this again but will gladly pop by once in a while if the queue was under 10 min as it’s actually not cheap for hawker good. Then again, for quality ingredients, I won’t expect this to cost below $5. Great service, friendly hawkers at helm. Good addition to the local hawker food fare!

Chanced upon this stall over the weekend. Queued about 15min before ordering 1 braised pork & 1 pork rib. Got to say the wait did not go unrewarded. Both were well presented (even though this is a hawker stall) & each has its unique flavour. Do not be deceived by the dark sauce - it's not salty at all. In fact, it blends well with the various vegetables in the bowl. The green veg is crunchy, the tao gua is fragrant & juicy, the egg is delicious & most importantly, the pork is soft, tender and yummy! The rice is quite special - they probly had seasoned it. The owners are not stingy with the amount & are very courteous. Definitely will come again & hopefully the quality remains. 加油!

This stall must have been featured on every food blogger and platform by now. Every visit to Golden Mile it's either a superbly long queue or sold out. Today I chanced upon a late lunch at 2pm, saw no queue and a lone customer picked up a bowl, and decided to enquire, 'still have?' Yup, the Shogun styled hawker replied, only set E, or Pork Cheek set at $8, sure, let's get it. Clean and organised stall, very courteous vendors, I noticed most pictures of the food out there of this stall, showed very 'gao' or thickly reduced braise sauce style and saw the self-helping chilli sauce, and decided to pick up two helpings of the chilli instead of one. Received my food in a jiff and sat down to eat. The meal is served in an old school metal enamel tin bowl, along with old wooden chopsticks and metal scooping spoons. Truly old school, but the old school stops right there. The food is anything but. For starters, the braising liquid is reduced to being like a thick sauce rather than a typical watery 'lor'. Ajitsuke tamago or ramen egg definitely isn't a Braised Pork Rice ingredient, and very nicely blanched baby Nai Bai or Milk Cabbage is the last thing you will expect to find in a bowl of Braised Pork Rice. So this is definitely not the Taiwanese offering, and neither is it your grandma's Teochew Lor Bak Png. While the concoction by Mr Shogun did develop his own style of a worthy offering of tender braised pork rice, you can't really place it anywhere. So if I were to attempt it, I would say, it's like five-spiced tender pulled pork. You can taste five spices and herbs. Very tender pork cheek pieces in good chunks over fluffy rice, with nicely flavoured Ajitsuke Tamago, crunchy Vege and flavourful Shitake and a large Tofu Block to go with. Unfortunately I believe Black Fungus and Taupok also ran out and not in my bowl. But I am not complaining. My $8 bowl of Pork Cheek has like, at least, half a kilo and more, of tender pork cheek. It's a lot to eat, and I am not a small eater. 1.78m at 70kg, gyms three times a week guy, go figure. And luckily it's pork cheek, near the end I figured it will get jerlat. Hence the chilli comes in. I liberally topped the zesty, tangy and sweet chilli over the pork and slurped it all up. Why one star short of five stars? Just my own biased. The old school part of me missed the star anise and soy sauce fragrance in a good braised pork rice. But this is definitely a good rendition and worth every cent of an $8 hearty eat. Come really hungry to try it.

Arrived around 11.45am on a Sunday and waited for 15min (about 10 queue numbers). You’ll need to collect a queue number to order, and will receive food quite promptly after ordering. Ordered the pork leg bowl ($4.50) with cheek add-on ($3). The bowl came with a few sides: blanched cabbage, 1 black fungus, 1 braised tofu, some braised pig skin, 1 braised mushroom, half an egg. Taste: I am a little surprised that the taste of the sauce across the entire bowl is not consistent or was perhaps meant to taste different. Sauce from the cheek is the most flavourful and delicious, could taste it in the meat. Sauce of the pork leg is a little lacking, and didn’t fully enter the meat. The sauce drizzled over the rice lacked taste (and colour too). Texture: Cheek is stewed to perfection as the meat fell apart upon gentle prodding with the chopsticks (see video). Leg was alright too, fell apart when I scooped it with rice (see photo). Skin is done just right. Value: The serving without the cheek add-on provides great value, just based on the variety. I’d say the serving for the cheek add-on isn’t a lot, but is a fair portion as compared to the serving in the cheek bowl (which is significantly pricier at $8). Will probably return for the cheek bowl and try the other cuts.
