Cheval Cafe-Bar-Bistro Kensington Square - 2 Jln Lokam

Brought the family here to have brunch on a Good Friday. Missus made reservation at 12pm and we were the first family there. Ordered Egg Royale, Truffle mushroom linguine, Cajun chicken, salmon steak, sous vide striploin done medium rare, and had two recommended sides of home made prawn ball and a pan seared foi gras on crispy slice of French loaf topped with beetroot. Place was split into two parts, one being the bar area and the other the cafe restaurant. Being situated in a neighborhood mall has its perks with own carpark and lifts, with alfresco dining area. Disabled people will have no problem coming here and getting a place to eat. Plus point for inclusiveness (+). Ambience inside the restaurant is good too, nice and clean and tidy (+). Food came out a little slower than expected considering we were the first customers (-). The prawn ball was excellent, and the foi gras was great, especially the vinegered beetroot that helped offset the oiliness from the foi gras. Egg Royale and Truffle mushroom pasta was good as evidenced by it being gobbled up so quickly by my two children, leaving behind only the sauce and raw veggies haha. (+) Cajun chicken came as two thick cuts (+) but the salmon steak was just a single cut and rather small given the price, but it was done nicely with a crispy skin topped with herbs, so I guess it's ok overall based on quality and not quantity, hence a (+ & -). All mains served with baby carrots, mushrooms and Brussel sprouts and a helping of homemade mash infused with mushroom and Truffle oil. The negative part was my sous vide striploin.. asked for medium rare but came out well done. Was told that medium rare can't be done for sous vide (which I dun agree) and the mash potato portion was super little (- & -)but the service was excellent in that they changed and upgraded my order to the Ribeye at no additional charge. Ribeye was done medium rare this time round and was okay except one third of it was tough as nails. Sides portion also just nice for the Ribeye. 1) Food (+) - need to try more of the menu. Let down by sous vide steak. 2) Place (++) 3) Service (+++) 4) Affordability (+) - price Vs quality and quantity is debatable. 5) Accessibility (+++) Overall, I would visit again to try other menu as the service was excellent. Made my day and kudos to the staff.

We went to try their $10 Angus Burger promo but they have stopped the promotion. We dined there nevertheless. The pricing did look on the high side for the neighborhood however it made it up on taste. The Angus patty was juicy and well executed. The mussels though quite small was cooked in a very tasty broth. And the seafood angel hair pasta had a really beautiful garlicky prawn oil taste. Good and prompt service too.

I live nearby and always walk pass this restaurant whenever I bring my dogs for their walks, thinking to myself, "one of these days I have to try this place!" Today was finally the day, and I left Cheval wondering what took me so long! Shoutout to Mok and the team for making us feel very welcomed, coupled with your good recommendation! Their service is superb and attentive, conversations flowed and it felt like I made new friends too. Food is great and the price is reasonable too. I will definitely recommend anyone who wants to try this place to give it a go. You will not be disappointed. Two thumbs up!

Great atmosphere and all the dishes we ordered were on point! ? highly recommend the fish & chips! The batter was not too thick and was really crispy! Plus point for it being pet-friendly ??

Been their regular of their main Bistro at Singapore Turf Club Riding Center (Woodland area) and this Kensington Square branch opened few months back when we were here to patronize them. And here we are for our gathering their signature prawn balls are strongly recommended not to missed, it's our must order( usually asked for a second serving). We ordered the herbal roasted rack of lamb and it was complimentable, it was flavourful, the meat was tender, the rack is a section of ribs with the loin meat attached and the fats around the rib bones been trimmed so it's not oily and maintained herbal fragranced. Slow braised beef chunks was also tasty and the meat was juicy and succulent with meats just fall-off the bone. Overall their foods were magnificent and it's not too noisy inside the bistro and there's also al-fresco seats available outside the unit and there's also a small whisky bar next door belongs to them if you preferred to have  dimmer lights ambience and a cozier place to chat. Car park and accessibility for wheelchair is not an issue.

This place deserves a good rating because not only the food is good, the plates / bowls also very pretty ? perfect for pictures if you’re into that. Im not into that so my pic is not nice. The server who tended to us ensures that our meal was great and made recommendations based on what he thinks we like. I’d say hes pretty spot on. I’ll definitely return for the fish and chips! The fish is chewy on the inside and crispy on the outside! Chips were hot and crispy, lightly salted. We finished the entire plate when is unusual because usually we dont finish.

Beautiful place, highly recommend if you're in the neighborhood. The manager even arranged an extra birthday lava cake, despite some miscommunication on my part. ? Food is good throughout, very decent pricing. Pet and people friendly, so I will definitely be back. Bonus is if you're pet owner, there's a bunch of groomers in same building so groom, eat and even happy hour all in one location. Sorry we consumed the mushroom soup too fast, because it's delicious and forgot to take photo.

Excellent service, great ambience. Really appreciate the complimentary birthday cake and singing. The food is also nice. Not mind blowing 5 star fine dining type but rather comfy homely easy eats kind of place. Definitely would come again.
