Suffering severe chest pains and in uncontrollable distress, my husband was rushed by taxi to A & E at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore late in the evening. Once there, a skilled, dedicated, efficient, kind and caring team led by Dr Eric Hong literally saved his life, and over the following days brought him back to good health. Nothing was too much trouble for all in ICU and HDU and he could not have had better care if he had been one of their own. Dr Hong and the team kept my husband fully informed, and included me and our son in discussions at all times, caring for all of us as one. My husband says he recalls the smiles, the care and understanding and the friendly chats, the traumas no longer uppermost in his mind, and in an inexplicable way he feels he is a part of a unique family. During a recent hospitalisation, Dr Hong who visited me daily during his rounds ensured I was responding well to the medications prescribed, saw that the best of care was given to me by the ward nurses and was instrumental in my recovery journey. On another occasion, I was experiencing perpetual chest pains and after running tests which ruled out all possible cardiovascular issues much to my relief, Dr Hong expressed his concern of a lurking mycoplasma even though I was not showing any symptoms of cough. A fasting blood test the next day and results a couple of days later actually confirmed his concern. I was most impressed with his profound wisdom and acutely accurate diagnosis! This led to the prescription of the appropriate medication which addressed the root cause of my agony and I was also able to take all necessary precautions to avoid infecting my children. Being a strong advocate of fitness who believes in a holistic lifestyle, he sets a great example to exercising regularly and encourages his patients to include physical exercises into our daily regimen in small steps, steady steps and bigger steps. Dr Hong is a very detail, patient and skillful heart specialist. He took time to help my mum understand the investigation results and why the stents were needed. Explained at great length on the procedures and risks involved. Follow-up very closely and thoroughly post-op. The nurses are very helpful too.
