★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very well balanced mixed grain porridge. Along with perfectly cooked Claypot chicken rice, savoury Ha Cheong Gai, and BeeHoon packed with the perfect mix of ingredients.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellent home-cooked fare in a cozy hole-in-the-wall like shop space. Ingredients were fresh and portion sizes were very generous. Tried a range of their dishes and was very impressed with the effort put into preparation. Definitely a good choice if you're craving some simple yet tasty dishes.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Comforting warm porridge, reasonably priced breakfast sets. However I noticed they've changed and don't use mixed grain rice anymore for the porridge only plain white rice, which is a shame.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hearty bowl of porridge, great to kick start the morning. However, taste of the porridge is not as good as I used to remember - not sure if it's because the recipe has changed or not. Price is on the higher end though because of the ingredients used.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Decent savoury porridge with a variety of ingredients. A nice touch with a taste of squid in the porridge broth.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I went to the Empress Porridge at One@Kent Ridge. The so-called "claypot" chicken rice came in a plastic bowl, with COLD vegetables, fatty Chinese sausages (can be seen in the photo) and a few pieces of chicken thighs in sauce. The savoury sauce is nothing to scream about....I mean anyone who knows how to cook a chicken dish can easily do it and the sauce is only drizzled over 2 pieces of chicken, not even enough to wet the rice. This is more like a $3.50 chap chye png from mixed rice stall! Must be the most miserable, unsatisfying, no-claypot-flavour-at-all "claypot rice" I've ever eaten. For $6.50, u can get a more delicious chicken claypot rice in a REAL claypot in any food centre or food court !!! So don't bother.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I ordered the tingkat service for two weeks for the first time with a $10 discount. The final price was $289.90 for 10 meals for 2 pax, over a period of 10 days. This is $14.50 per meal, inclusive of GST (or $29 a day for 2 pax). They charge as a subscription on a two week renewal.
The weekly plan comprises of one Chye peng day (rice veg meat soup etc) and a few specials like western, japanese, Malay…
Service:
Very good. They are readily contactable and always engaging. Replies are instant.
Flavour:
Hit and miss. They are our first tingkat experience, so seeing how the reviews are absolutely glowing, I quite wonder if all other tingkat providers must be horrendous by comparison. What empress does best is the porridge and local Chinese spread, and the Malay food meals. Those were delicious! Stir fried veg and soup were not too salty, Malay food was flavourful.
The “international” style meals, like pao fan, japanese etc left a lot to be desired. They were really Salty, and felt like instant food. I have attached an image of the pao fan-looked very generous, but we couldn’t stomach the flavour and went without dinner that day. For these meals, they do no different from ordering GRAB food. There’s no home cooked feel, and $29 for two on grab food is more than enough.
Portions:
Some days it’s a lot, other days it’s little. The portioning was quite inconsistent. For the local style dinners we mentioned above, Very often the chicken is very generous and the ratios between the meat veg soup and rice felt about right. And if it was too much for us to finish, A little bit extra from each meal component can be pooled together and make part of a 3rd meal so it would not go to waste. The international specials on the other hand…the ratios were always a little off. We could finish most of the components but we’re left with a tub of soup, or another bowl of rice. We don’t like to throw the food so I ended up cooking lunch for the next day just to use up the rice.
It seems to me that for empress tingkat, they have better experience and expertise for local style dishes (why go to a Chinese restaurant for western food right?). If you like extreme variety, empress would be ok for you. We are pleased with the overall experience and service, tho the meal types was too all over the world for us.
Also, attached image of 1 weeks worth of plastic containers that has been washed and dried for disposal in the recycling bin. Quite staggering, imagine this for every family dinner in Singapore ? Wow. Hopefully tingkat meal services can revert to usage of tiffin carriers once life with covid returns to normal.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We have been switching between dinner tingkat vendors till we found Empress. Their dinner is absolutely tasty & so-look-forward to.
We started with 4-days dinner but switched to 5-days dinner after a month. For the first time, we look forward to tingkat dinner instead of eating out. Empress knows how to surprise you & family with beautiful festival food with theme. ( highly recommended ?)
They got very good paranakan food, nasi lemak, absolutely beautiful Christmas food (chestnut with dry shrimp rice is a must-try)not forgetting their kid's meals, so ? cute.
We love Empress's food so much that we decided to do our CNY PenCai 盆菜, with them. The 1st photo was what we received from Empress. They are always trusty & never disappoint, absolutely ? excellent partner.
We love their food & hope you & family too will find your ultimate like us.
