I find this wholesome 3/5, somewhat healthy 4/5, and I enjoy the extra crunch 4/5 between bites. Portion wise vs price 3/5 given this cost $5. Despite this, I could taste WOK HEI 4/5 and a very subtle hint of sweetness 3/5 atypical of stronger versions of CKT. So if you’re looking for that typical strong taste, this is not for you. But if you’re looking for a guilt-free alternative, this works.

The mighty have fallen; I’d craved for a plate of fried kuay teow last rainy evening; something fresh off the wok, piping hot and soft to the feel with that layer of greens over the kuay teow to lend a “healthier” edge to the meal. Well, I got at least the vegetable part still hot. It was an abnormal result for a stall that had been well rated for this dish. What I had yesterday was an excessively oily dish- yes even by fried kuay teow standards but what’s the no-no for me was the fact that a third of the plate consisted of leftover noodles that seemed to have been prepared since the afternoon because they were not soft and over-fried, hence overly oily. No I didn’t enjoy the meal. The grilled chicken wings didn’t work for me as well and didn’t fare better on the oily scale; the only consolation was the tea Black I had. Turns out it was “over-steeped?” And a little “bitter” but in this instance worked wonders in washing all the oil down... Come to Pasir Panjang for the other wonderful food they have here but I’d probably skip these two stalls next time.

Loved the greens, ordered extra portion of veg as it makes the food less greasy. Sadly, the noodles lacked the wok hey and ingredients (no fish cake, no lup cheong), only had bean sprouts, cockles and little egg. Portion pictured below costs $5

Knowing this is famous couldn’t prepare me the stunt look I had when hubby bought this plate which coat $3 and it’s like 3 mouthful worth of noodles and taste so bland with no wok hei and dry noodles Shockingly small plate! The picture is untouched I am writing here to remind myself not to order again

I recalled small portion (3 mouths can finish), noodles (97%) hard and dry, kway teow only 3%, vege taste raw and uncle very arrogant

I ordered the $10 orh lua on char kway teow and although the portion was great, it was much too oily overall. the vegetables were also kind of covered in oil. super friendly guy tho. would recommend to try once as it was my first time having so much veggies on CKT (which is quite a nice change), but won't eat again any time soon

Pushing the chye sim heap aside, I could then taste the char kway teow in its full flavour. Generous serving of hum and bigger ones too - not the tiny little fingernail size we usually get nowadays. 1 piece of lard - so he does use it - though perhaps diluted with veggie oil for healthier choice? I realised you cannot tapau this dish or it will not retain its texture, moistness and flavour. Given the price of vegetable, big hum, eggs, lard, etc, $4 is a reasonable price today. Will go back when I want this dish. Perhaps I may try asking him to fry the chye sim with the dish next round.

Char kway teow was below average in taste and quantity was pathetic for a $4 plate.
