I was referred to Ms Jenny Lai, by another lawyer. At a time when no other lawyer would take up my case, due to its highly complex nature, being able to gain Ms Jenny's timely assistance to me was akin to a (stranded) fish gaining water. Indeed, Ms Jenny is a rare gem in the legal profession. Communication with her is mainly via email exchanges, as well as occasional face-to-face meetings and phone calls ( through her office line, for more pressing matters). Her email replies are often prompt in short, succinct sentences, unless where immediate answers are not available. Being a woman of logic and few words, with in-depth knowledge of the legal system, Ms Jenny would let the result of her work speak for itself. Neither does she waste your time, nor her own. Although she may come across as somewhat cool and distant, that's because she needs to protect her energies to remain level-headed. And that is important in her line of work, if she's going to be able to help you solve your problem. These are the traits of someone who possesses high intelligence, wisdom and capabilities. Her dedication and sense of responsibility are also unquestionable. On top of these, her office is probably one of the neatest and tidiest, I have been to, with a woman's touch. To achieve the most favourable outcome of your case, at least 3 things are needed : a noble or righteous cause, a good lawyer, and a good client. The best lawyer-client relationship, as with almost all sustainable relationships, is like teamwork. Mutual trust and respect are the keys. Your lawyer must believe in your cause, in order to fight your battles effectively for you. And you must believe in your lawyer's capabilities, and treat him/her as your mentor and advisor. Therefore, if Ms Jenny asks you to reply her emails, please do so at your earliest convenience. Because she is trying to understand more so as to better help you. And because time is of the essence. And if she asks you for payment, please also do so promptly. Because just as you would not let your general in the battlefield worry about food supplies, you would not let your lawyer worry about payments. So that your lawyer can fully focus on fighting your court battles for you. When it comes to lawyer's fees, Ms Jenny's rates are not cheap. But that's because she is well worth those rates, and perhaps, more. When you need a lawyer to represent you, you must understand that you are unloading all your burdens on another human being to fight your court battles that you cannot fight by yourself. Therefore, your lawyer needs to be adequately compensated for shouldering your burdens, fighting your battles. Moreover, quality comes at a price. So, don't expect good lawyers to come cheap. And Ms Jenny is highly recommended. For she is the best lawyer for me. Finally, as much as I wish to express my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Ms Jenny ( and her team) for the tremendous help rendered, I can never thank her enough. Therefore, I shall convey my deepest gratitude to her in these 5 Chinese characters, “大恩不言谢”。
