Excellent sushi experience. Easy peaceful atmosphere. We picked a few sushi and let the chef recommend the rest. Engawa, otoro, shirako, green eye, sharkskin Flounder, kinki were all good. Tuna head we always have that here. Really liked the pickle and fatty tuna maki as well. Hotate is always reliable here too.

Chef Kan and staff were very friendly and we had a very good time there, chatting about his extensive knife collection. We had the omakase sushi during lunch and tried tuna head sushi for the first time. The hirame marinated in garlic was also amazing as it melts in your mouth. The toro was so fatty - it was the lightest pink!

Basic sushi Omakase for $128++ per pax TL;DR - Fantastic meal, will be returning again and again. Partner and I frequented their Tanjong Pagar outlet as it offers a hole in the wall, casual izakaya vibe with phenomenally fresh fish and most importantly, fantastic rice that we just can’t find anywhere else without bleeding wallets dry (proper shaping makes the perfect bite, yet just the right amount of tang & at room temp). Happy to say, this branch far exceeded those already high standards. This offers a more authentic “hidden” sushi-ya experience with counter seating, and Mr Kan (the sushi chef-owner) is really conversationally engaging & masterfully wields knives that look like mini swords - he brings out the pelts/shells of seafood for visual reference, and we were so lucky to taste some amazing rare catches. With omakase, you’d safely expect an assortment of fresh sushi with some hits and misses even if it’s legit - after all, it’s a matter of personal preference (textures and tastes). Dinner @ Kan was an all-out hit on flavour, freshness & impeccable service with free flow green tea. The meal turned out to be even more value-for-money than what we’d usually order ala carte at Tanjong Pagar. We left with our bellies full and a satisfied smile on our faces.

* Unpleasant Experience My husband and I had our date night dinner sitting by the sushi bar. The evening started off very chill and relaxing. Food was good (fatty tuna, wagyu beef, specialty sushi’s) with some special recommendations from chef Kan/ owner and he was really friendly. While enjoying the evening, My husband bought probably 3-4 rounds of beers for chef Kan and the waitress also wanted/ requested for herself which my husband happily obliged.. when the bill came, my husband as usual didn’t check the bill… after payment done (to my surprise), the bill was $1000+ for 2 pax but frankly speaking we were expecting $600-700 the most. the waitress charged us extra 15 Asahi beers and 8 bottles of imported beers (my husband probably drank 6 bottles beers and we shared 2 small bottles sake). Double charge for one dish and 2 tiny in-house appetizers for $24 served prior to ordering food (it was a standard charge there)… so when I clarified with her, she insisted she, and the 2 chefs drank 15 Asahi total (omg are you kidding, what a cheap shot!!) And didn’t offer the refund for double charges but said oh next time when my husband goes back, they would serve him the dish that she double charged… Totally NO Ethic!!! Taking advantage on nice customers!! ? I felt a total rip-off and let down by the experience..We had never experienced such unpleasantness in other Fine Japanese places..even though expensive but wonderful feelings elsewhere always.. We will not come back to Kan again and would rather spend that amount in other Fine Japanese restaurant. Sorry Kan, you just lost a nice customer who bought you guys drinksssss and also keep the dishes you double charged us) ? Guys, If you do have dinner here, bring a fat wallet, please carefully check the bills (my husband never did) especially when you order several À la cart dishes and beverages? 2 ⭐️star rating: 1 ⭐️for the food, 1 ⭐️for the friendliness of Chef

Just had omakase lunch there to celebrate my brother’s birthday. Sushi was fantastic, as was the sashimi. The hotate just melted in my mouth… really lovely. Will definitely return. Thank you for the wonderful experience. ~Caroline

My wife and I came here for a restaurant week special but it was their normal menu (specials were add-ons which we didn't particularly like). I had a sushi course (9 pieces if I recall correctly) and my wife had an unagi don. The chef himself (Kan Nishina) was at the counter and made the sushi. We could see him handle each piece, adding wasabi, flaming, etc. and forming each piece. It was served sushiya style - one by one - and when we showed some interest, he started to talk to us to explain each fish. First thing he had asked was if there was enough rice (was perfect in size). Then told us no need for wasabi as he's put in what's needed. We also didn't need any soya sauce - the balance of each dish was very very good. And he served it from simple to fatty ending with tamago. Overall probably our best sushi experience in Singapore. And the best value for money. The friendly chef and his willingness to chat was amazing, though we were the first customers that day. The back of his counter is a showcase of knives for sale. I think he said they're from his hometown of Sakai. He just uses a small number which is kept right next to where he stands. Oh yes, mustn't forget the unagi don - very well cooked unagi (not too sweet) and goes well with the rice. Another great value dish. I would rave more about it if not for how much we enjoyed the sushi. We will definitely return! Pictures are just of the appetizers and salad. We were too busy enjoying the sushi and talking to the chef to take pictures!

Good Omakase at this place. Cozy little restaurant. Sushi and sashimi was excellent, although I hoped that the chef could have been more interactive with introducing the dishes and/or asking what we preferred or did not prefer. Or maybe just strike up some conversation with us. Perhaps he was a bit busy as there were 2 groups, including mine, and 2 other individual customers. That’s fine though. Just a little feedback. But overall I would still recommend this place.
