Marutama Ramen (Kallang)

Looks can be deceiving, this might not look like a great ramen restaurant as it’s a little dated and a little cramped looking, ok maybe not great, but it’s pretty good. This chain of ramen is quite popular so you know it can’t be that bad. We went for a spicy chicken ramen and to be honest it wasn’t spicy at all, but the good thing about this place is it comes with great condiments. Especially the dried garlic flakes, so after a hearty helping of that and some chilli, we got the flavour to the place we like it, garlicky and spicy. The ramen itself was tasty, the noodles soft but with a nice bite to the texture. The meat was ok, but with the enhanced soup flavour (and a portion of spring onion) it was very enjoyable. It’s not a stand out great ramen restaurant but if you need a fix and you want a solid good one, this is the place you should check out.

Came here because was told the chef make good food! The char Siew is a MUST order, sliced proportioned and nicely charred. The ramen is so springy and makes us felt like we are back in Japan. If my little girl says it’s good, it must be good. No doubts with the 5 stars.

The spicy ramen is tasteful. I thought they served me the wrong dish when it came in a deceptively plain soup. The cha shiu is, however a letdown. Overall the service is quite good and prompt. The ordering app is buggy.

First time trying the ramen here. The chicken broth was very flavourful even though it does not contain MSG, the taste was really unique as well. I’m not a huge fan of char siu but the one here is so tender, it has a nice layer of fat to meat ratio. The thicker cut char siu was good as well, but the standard one is more to my liking. The portion was really generous and the toppings (aosa seaweed, spring onions) complimented the broth really well. Was served by Susan and her service was great. You’re able to get complimentary water and green tea here as well.

Food's great! Ordered the cabbage ramen and the broth exceeded my expectation. Omelette and gyoza were delicious! Waitress assisted with our order and was knowledgeable. After meal, Johnny asked for our feedback, on areas to improve etc. Overall excellent service!

Service was ok, as you would expect staff are polite and attentive. Note that at the time of visiting they only accept orders and payment through the app which is frustrating as there seemed to be options on the paper menu which didn’t show up in the app (like option to have without egg at lower price) - you also must pay before your order is confirmed. The ramen itself is really disappointing. The Char Siu was particularly bad - strong pork flavour, overly firm/boiled texture, no discernible seasoning. Noodles and broth were ok, but virtually no extras besides some spring onions. The egg was basically just soft boiled - runny white and yolk inside. For around $20 there are MUCH better options elsewhere. Can’t recommend.

Long time Martian’s fan, first time visiting this store. This being a bigger restaurant, the side menu is slightly expanded. You can’t go wrong with ordering classic zenbu with spicy broth or Aka ramen. Their char siu and egg usually comes a little cold so make sure you dip in the hot broth instead of biting right into it. Would recommend for to not add too much garlic chip. They are much stronger in flavour than I expected.
