Prawning at Orto - #01-09 81 Lorong Chencharu

the place is rigged like mad... I spend 2 hours there and only caught 1 prawn and the worst part was that before I was about to put the prawn into the plastic bag, it was already dead. I would definitely not return back there and I highly recommend going to other places like haibin. The staffs there are very friendly and helpful. Unlike orto, if you caught only a few prawns they would give you some extra prawns.

Not the first time I’ve visited here and it was a pretty fun time previously but a heads up, now they don’t allow any alcohol while you are prawning and you can no longer BBQ the prawns after…definitely not what we expected. Also we were a party of 3, all with our own rod, and only managed to catch 1 prawn! Not saying we are seasoned prawners by any means but was disappointing.

Went on Sunday afternoon and there’s lots of people per pond. Pretty tough to catch. But, the boss/service staff was really helpful, teaching us how to properly use the rod etc. Will go back again!

Staffs were rude and unfriendly since the start. We were first timers here and they were rather impatient with us. Pathetic catch rates and we don't really have much choice to choose which area of the pond to prawn since they deliberately cordon off the areas and forced customers to prawn at half the pond(why not just open the whole pond?) ... There's more lives to be found in the cemetery than in these ponds tbh and would not recommend anyone to come here to catch prawns. I was in a group of 5 and had 4 rods. More than 2 hours in and we only had 6 prawns. Don't waste your time and money here, not worth it. Mosquitoes can get more food here than what a human can get . Come here only can catch the water currents.

First things staff told us not to vape inside premises.. but yet staff itself vape Infront of us Infront of counter ... And beside the prawn pond... They are so rude and unfriendly, and not helpful at all ... I rather go haibin punggol the staff there is so nice and even we nvr caught any prawn they will help us out.... and for 2 hrs we only caught 2 prawn .. ask the staff the staff tell me I put more also no use because the prawn don wan eat!!!!!!!!! Not recommended... And honestly disappointed.... Because I was here last time when orto just open ... But now the staff really cannot really very rude...

The staff was not very helpful. They did walk us over to the pond after payment but they did not tell us we could fish in the other ponds nor give us any additional tips. Furthermore, we did not catch anything for the first 1.5 hrs and during that time, the staff had walked by only once to ask, "Caught anything?" To which we replied no and he told us to keep trying which is pretty much what we were already doing... To add on, the rods seem rigged to me. We did not catch anything until another customer, a regular, came over and tinkered with our rod. He suspected that our rod's string wasn't long enough to reach the prawns which would explain why the bait from our hooks never even disappeared T_T Price-wise, $30/person for 2 hours is also expensive considering we only caught 2 prawns. But, why I gave 2 stars was because of the company. The old man who helped us with our rods (which allowed me to catch 2 prawns aft!) also gave us his entire basket of prawns amounting to ~20 prawns in total. There were times my companion and I got distracted talking to each other and we didn't notice the pull on our rods and other regulars pointed it out to us as well :) The ambience there is also very tranquil and peaceful so it makes for a great place to chill and catch up. All in all, if u want to catch prawns, this isn't the place. Unless you bring ur own bait or you know how to adjust your own rod. But if you are looking for company then this is a great place to go!

Always loved the therapeutic and mixture of fun feeling when doing this! 1hr $20..... If u are lucky..... Then d prawns may be drunk???..... U can have them barbecued at same place after the catch.

[Detailed Review] I was the first-time customer here and spent 2 hours prawning ($30). I finally caught 5 prawns, one of them came with a pink tag which I could redeem for a bonus, 5 hr prawning package valid for 6 months. Hope you are lucky to get one too ?. I visited the place 5-7 pm on Saturday and saw the staff refilled prawns twice. I honestly say that there are lots of prawns in ponds but I’m an amateur so I couldn’t catch many, but I saw a pro nearby could catch prawns every 5-10 minutes. That customers gave me all of his prawns for BBQ. The place provides a DIY BBQ grill, customers have to BBQ prawns themselves. Staff only demonstrated how to put skewers to prawns and managed charcoals of the grill. They are very helpful when you asked for help. I deduct one star for not selling sauce for BBQ. The BBQ will be much more delicious if there is nice sauce such as chilli, satay or seafood sauce.
