Situated just five minutes away from bustling Orchard Road, the Singapore Botanic Gardens is a lush sanctuary in the heart of the city. The Gardens has been developed along a Four-Core Concept. The four cores are Tanglin, which is the heritage core retaining the old favourites and charms of the historic Gardens; Central is the tourist belt of the Gardens; and Bukit Timah the educational and discovery zone. A fourth core, Tyersall-Gallop, was created with the opening in 2017 of the Learning Forest which is designed to integrate with the Gardens' existing rain forest to form an enlarged forest habitat. Each Core presents an exciting array of attractions. Take your time to stroll around the Gardens and enjoy the wonderful sights and sounds the luscious greenery offers.

Wonderful, excellent garden! If you will go to Singapore you must travel in the Singapore Botanic Garden. The Learning Forest is a new 9.8 hectares extension to the existing Singapore Botanic Gardens. The land was previously a mature secondary forest (Tyersall forest) in the south, and in the north a small stream flowed through a steep valley surrounded by clumps of large Albizia trees. The site was previously separated from the Botanic Gardens by Tyersall Avenue, which also catered for limited car and coach parking. The Learning Forest has been designed with new wetlands, visitor facilities, replacement parking, and themed walks encompassing a wide variety of forest, bamboo and wetland plant collections whilst also conserving and improving the existing southern forest. The character of the Learning Forest is intended to be natural, wild, and adventurous. Elements such as the canopy walkways through the forest, the canopy web, wetland boardwalks, stepping stones, and bridges, enable visitors to experience the forest and the wetland areas in new ways. The character of the Learning Forest is intended to be natural, wild, and adventurous. Elements such as the canopy walkways through the forest, the canopy web, wetland boardwalks, stepping stones, and bridges, enable visitors to experience the forest and the wetland areas in new ways. Visitor facilities such as the interpretive shelter, coach/car drop off area, and toilets were restricted to the disturbed northern portion of the site. The old Tyersall Avenue alignment was used for construction access to avoid disturbance to existing vegetation, and along with the old Istana access road (Canarium Drive), will serve as a walkway and maintenance route.

Singapore Botanic Gardens, officially Botanic Gardens, botanical garden in Singapore that is one of the world’s finest in terms of both its aesthetic appeal and the quality of its botanical collection. The garden has approximately 3,000 species of tropical and subtropical plants and a herbarium of about 500,000 preserved specimens. Much of the 31-hectare (80-acre) garden, which was founded by the British in the mid-19th century, was hewn out of the Malay jungle. More than 4 hectares (11 acres) of original jungle land have been preserved in their natural state. During its early years the garden served primarily as an experimental station for plantsβ€”both native and importedβ€”with potential commercial value. Under the direction of Henry N. Ridley, who took over as superintendent in 1888, the garden became a centre for research on Hevea brasiliensis, the Brazilian rubber tree. Ridley developed an improved method of tapping rubber trees that resulted in a better yield of latex. His innovation revolution

Easy introductory walk/hike for young kids. The carpark and toilets are located right next to the park entrance. Depending on the loop and direction you choose, the walk can be as short as a 1km loop, or longer if you venture deeper into the Gardens. Flat paved roads or boardwalk throughout, very stroller friendly. At the top of a spiral staircase is a set of bouncy nets for the whole family to jump on (max 12 pax per net) and provides a pleasant break along the walk. Good for animal spotting - our count was 2 swans, 1 kingfisher, 2 waterhens, 2 clouded monitors, 1 turtle and many dragonflies.
