Very authentic Asam laksa with fresh ingredients . The cockles were big and fresh !

$7 but the portion is really way more than what you get for paying less anywhere else in Singapore. and the ingredients are really fresh and of good quality. It was pretty spicy though. maybe you would want to ask for less chilli if you can't take overly spicy food.

I always look for real Malaysia Asam Laksa (aka Penang laksa) since I work in Singapore, unfortunately can’t find it, but there’s one day after I met my client, when I go collect my car and smell the familiar taste over the store, then I found this store, but I was in rush didn’t stop by to try it, after pandemic lock down and busy work for years, I finally found one night and drop by to try it, well…the taste…is what I want, it was excellent, I finally found my hometown favourite food, with original taste, love it.

With rice noodles, belachan and “hae gor” (fermented prawn sauce) imported from Penang, the taste for this stall’s Assam Laksa (portion is HUGE by the way) is as authentic as you can get here in Singapore. I have had many an assam laksa gravies but I find @pat_phua’s (no relation) the most balanced and tastiest. It’s thick with fresh Kembung (Indian mackerel) and because of the superior type of assam fruit, possesses a refined brightness. Love her generous serving of fresh mint leaves, sweet pineapple, sliced onions, cucumber and “bunga kantan” (ginger flower) in every takeaway portion too ($12). The first time I had this dish was when KS sent it to me. Today, it was Michelle who kindly did so. And thanks to her timely reminder, I decided to show my support and ordered a few packets to gift friends. Hope they will all enjoy their dinner as much as I have mine ? Assam laksa is simply superb! A combination of sour, sweet, spicy and tangy all in one bowl. The gravy is cooked to perfection. The asam keping is so soft, it melts in your mouth. Generous toppings. Ms Pat has it down to a pat!

Really like the tanginess of the leksa! Can taste different herbs and spices from the broth. The noodles is quite special, the texture is like mee tai mak but looks like thick bee noon. (reminds me of lai fun 瀨粉 actually)

At $7, you may be paying a premium but quality and taste were impeccable and one of the most authentic Penang Assam Laksa in Singapore. Serving was generous. Large bowl of rice noodles in thick Assam fish broth. The broth was vibrant, pungent, sour with a spicy kick (I felt the fieriness kick in in my stomach only after I ate but no regrets). The laksa was also supported by many ingredients - mackerel bits, fresh mint leaves, sliced onion, fermented prawn paste. Overall, a well-executed dish studded with freshness and authenticity.

Not much of a Penang laksa fan. But the Penang laksa is very good. Might seem a little pricey at $7, you probably have fly to Penang to have the same goodness ? It's sour, slightly sweet and definitely packed a spicy punch. When all the flavours come together, it was simply amazing!
